"Anton was easy to work with. Sent email on a Sunday. He called in five minutes and came that afternoon to look at the job. Replaced baseboard in four bedrooms and repaired a hole in the ceiling. All work was completed in two days starting that Monday. The carpenter that did the baseboards (I think his name is John) was great, neat and did a wonderful job. I will definately call Anton again. "The job was to remove metal railings and replace them with weather treated wood railings on my front porch and primary entrance. The administrative person Satira was wonderful to deal with. The owner Alan provided me with a affordable estimate. The two workmen who arrived this morning to do the work were on time and a pleasure to deal with. The workmanship was outstanding and I would highly recommend them as well as I will use Westside Building in the future. I would rate them as a 5 out of 5 without exception."

"I have nothing but good things to say about Jose and his team. He came by and looked at the job the same day I called. I informed him that I had a deal and he included the patio, stairs and gutters at an excellent price. They were professional, efficient, and completed everything in a timely fashion. Everything was so clean, I was very impressed. I will definitely be using him again."

"I highly recommend this company. I was given a great price and all work was done perfectly. I have an 18’ ceiling that was also painted which required scaffolding to do it. Alberto and his team took great care to protect my wood floors while using their scaffolds and the work was done quickly and cleanly. No drips, all paint lines were sharp and straight. My house was spotless when they left. Needless to say… I was very impressed with their work. I will be using them again in the near future and suggest that if you need painting to give New Sunrise Painting a call."

"tThe crew arrived on time and completed the work as scheduled. The job appears to be very professional. They spent time with us afterwards to explain what they found and how it was rectified. Since the issue was intermittent leaks we do not have absolute proof that the the issues has been fixed but have had no issues since the repair was done.

FAQs for wood stairs and railings repair projects in Red Hook, NY

Hiring a pro to refinish wooden stairs means labor makes up 20% to 30% of your total budget. That price covers sanding, staining, and sealing each step. In most cases, a certified refinisher can tackle a 10-step staircase in about two hours, then apply stain and sealant for a durable, eye-catching finish that stands up to daily traffic.

A pro can sand a standard 10-step staircase in roughly two hours, then needs another four to six hours for each coat of stain and sealant to dry. DIYers should budget up to a week for sanding, staining, and sealing in stages. With a crew on site, the bulk of the work is completed in a single day, minimizing disruptions while still achieving a high-quality finish.

It’s possible to refinish stairs without full-scale sanding by using chemical strippers, power buffers, or simply layering a fresh finish over the existing coat. Chemical strippers break down old stains and sealants, while buffers quickly shave off surface material. Even so, a quick hand-sand with fine-grit paper helps the new finish bond properly and look smooth. As always, suit up in protective gear and follow product directions to keep your wood—and yourself—safe.

For most stair projects, you’ll want two sandpaper grits. Begin with 80- to 120-grit to strip the old finish and even out rough spots, then move to 150- to 220-grit for a smooth, ready-for-stain surface. A power sander speeds up the coarse pass, but switches to hand sanding with the fine grit in corners and along edges to keep abrasion even and give stain or sealer something to grab onto.
