"Water heater replaced by Mr. Rooter of Woodbridge VA, they said I needed $2600 of extra items required by code - this is beyond the cost of the water heater ($1600) and labor to install it (~$600) which was covered by warranty. I paid a deposit on my VISA. The work was partially performed and the technician told me, “the mixing valve did not need replaced” and that, Mr. Rooter would “contact me and settle the charges for work actually done,” since many items on the invoice were not performed. Mr. Rooter did not contact me and charged the credit card that I used for the initial deposit a second time without my authorization. This amount included parts/labor for items not replaced and items covered by the warranty such as installation, and haul away. I did not authorize the charge. Mr. Rooter also stained my carpet, left glue, trash, and putty on the floor, and installed the unit incorrectly. Finally, they claimed items were required by code that may not be."
