"I hired Alan to replace a badly deteriorated garage floor and to install a parking pad next to the garage off an alley. When he came to the site to give the estimate he also pointed out some failed mortar joints and significant stair-step cracking along the rear wall. In all, he and his crew repaired multiple sections of old mortar and replaced a rusty lintel; removed the old concrete garage floor; prepared the garage and exterior parking pad, removing dirt and a tree; formed up the new 18x18 garage floor and 20x20 parking pad, with a 4' apron; and poured the new concrete with appropriate finishes. I am absolutely thrilled with the finished product. Alan and his crew were a delight to work with. He clearly communicated changes in plans to work around weather and set expectations on scheduling and how long it would be before the concrete would be ready to be parked on. The site was left clean and neat at the end of each day, and the substantial, unavoidable disruption of the alley was repaired at the end of each day to make it presentable and drivable. No damage was done to my property or neighboring properties. I expected the initial estimate to be significantly higher, yet Alan committed to it, and the only small changes were due to additional work I requested while they were there. I could not be happier with how this project came together, and Alan was a delight to work with. I have several other smaller projects planned over the next few years and hope I'll be able to use him for those, as well!"

"Although it took a few weeks to get an appointment during this very busy time, good reliable companies are busy right now. But the wait was well worth it. Two professional technicians arrived, first checking the the fireplace and flue from inside the house. Right away I was told good news, it didn’t need a professional cleaning at this time! Then they crawled up on the roof (in 12 degree temperature) to check the brickwork and chimney. They explained that no major repairs were necessary at this time, but they did recommend some improvements that could be done at a later date. I truly appreciated their honesty. I was quoted $120 for a cleaning, and they could have very well went through the motions and cleaned it and I never would have known. Instead, they charged me $60 for an inspection, and the peace of mind I got knowing there were no major problems and I could start burning real wood, was well worth it!"

He said that what was occurring was a natural condition due to how the posts supporting the center beam of the house moves slightly with the seasons. He indicated that he could have his company install two or three additional posts in the crawl space deeper in the soil, but he thought that such was not needed because the movement was so slight. Mr. Thrift concluded that nothing should be done at the present time, but if there was a noticeable increase in the separation of the countertop and backsplash, to call him. I found out later from a tile installer that grout cracks between granite and marble was to be expected because two separate materials respond different to atmospheric conditions in the house. <br /> We were most appreciative of Mr. Thrift's honest appraisal because he could have told us that an expensive repair was needed. I would not hesitate to contact his company in the future if the problem worsens. <br />"

"They were on time, extremely efficient getting the permits from the county and getting the inspection immediately upon completion of the project. We have been dealing with several contractors because we have an older home that needs updating in every room. Castle Chimney by far was the most professional, on time, responsive and communicative contractor we have dealt with to date. The only reason I gave them a B on price was because after we met Stuart the owner we decided we really liked him and wanted his company to do our fireplace. So we did not get other estimates.
