"George was busy so it took a little while to set up our appointment but when the day came he arrived on time and did what needed to be done efficiently and at a very reasonable cost. I was very happy with the work done. I have had George do work for me in the past so this was no surprise. He may be the best service person I've ever had do work for me. I will be installing a new shower soon and George set me up with contacts to do the carpentry work and review my options for replacing the shower. I will be hiring George to do the plumbing work on that project too."

"The install only took a day, and the piping looks nice and clean.  When they were finished they took the time to explain everything to me and they cleaned up after themselves well.  There was a small hiccup that resulted in no hot water for a couple of hours a little later on in the night, but their on-call-help was able to walk me through the settings to get it back up and running. <br /> I ended up going with them mostly because I prefer the boiler manufacturer they use compared to other HVAC companies in the area, so much so that I was willing to pay a little more for it (even though their price was right in the same ballpark as the two other quotes I got). <br /> I had heard nothing but good things about them and they did nothing to change my perception. <br />"

"Over the years, Ryan's has done a total of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of work for me and/or my clients over the decades, and the outcomes have always been good. They show up on time, do professional work, and charge a reasonable amount. They'll even end someone when there's a weekend emergency (for regular customers, at least). My philosophy of hiring subcontractors is to find really good, reliable people, and stick with them long term. That's how you get the best results, and the best service. Remember: you get what you pay for."

"Wonderful. Finally, at last, I have found a contractor who has a heart, soul and conscience. A company that has a great group of workers who are there to do what you want, and how you want it done. I have hired other contractors such as Polli construction, as well as Don Pinette flooring. You have been told that they are good at what they do, but end-up doing the job as fast as possible, then hand you a bill for thousands of dollars. This last time I hired Tongue & Groove Carpentry, owned by Mark Judge. I had a bathroom vent fan , and this spring I had them remove all gutters and fascia boards on my house, and replace with new PVC boarding so I will no longer have to worry about rot or painting as long as I live here. They have been here everyday, do an excellent job, and clean-up everyday before leaving. When the job is done, the bill is not presented until you have done a complete walk-thru with the owner, and everything done as you wanted. Mark Judge is a wonderful person to deal with and I would recommend him to anybody needing a contractor, regardless of the size of the job. If your are looking for that right man for the job, T&C carpentry, is the right choice to make."

"Todd and his helper removed the old cast iron floor standing unit then installed the new 95%+ efficient wall mount unit in 8-9 hours. We went from .6 GMP (that’s right, little more than 1/2 gallon per minute) of domestic hot water to nearly 5gpm. The new NTI unit is nearly silent and was able to have our smart WiFi thermostat hooked up to it. The copper work Todd and his man (TNT plumbing) did was amazing on the installation, using special pumps on each zone instead of unreliable zone valves. His price for the install was, in my book right on for what we got. No shortcuts were taken and top of the line equipment was installed. After the unit was up and running, Todd spent the time to properly hook up my Honeywell WiFi thermostat, and to explain in detail the operation of our new boiler unit. I hired Todd by his reputation doing this kind of work and was not disappointed. Highly recommended and would definitely hire again."

"It went very well. After a bit of a wait, I received a very comprehensive report of 88 specific items as well as bacteria, fungi and particles. Each Item detected over the EPA drinking water limits had an explanation sheet. Also provided was a contact person at the company to address any questions you had about the report findings. I thought the service was well worth the $300 just for the peace of mind. I intend to use the company on an annual basis going forward."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Richmond, VT

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
