"Schan did a great job, very professional. He came out to see what the job was before he gave me a quote. I have a huge crawl space which took some time but he stuck with it to finish it in one day. Now I can breathe easier knowing it's taking care of right. I highly recommend Clean Air Radon Systems."

"I highly recommend Midwest Radon Services and I am relieved that the system installed was effective. Price was fair and competitive; all work was thoroughly and patiently explained with no pressure. Work was neatly and expertly finished. Suction under the basement slab was tested by measuring into a hole drilled then patched at the other side of the basement and turned out to be extremely good. The system continues to work extremely well with a sight verifiable U-tube monometer on the exhaust system continually monitoring. In addition, over 18 days since installation, the long term Radon readings, on two different digital testers purchased from Amazon, went way down from a maximum of 4.5, to a range of 0.83 - 0.6 during the time when the furnace was being used which is also a time that Radon readings tend to peak."

"The guys came out within a day or two of my initial call and spent quite a bit of time explaining what they would do. They were patient and seemed very knowledgeable. Their solution involved routing the exhaust through the garage and garage attic and out the roof, which would be much more attractive and less subject to weather extremes than routing the exhaust pipe along the exterior of the house. After I gave them the go ahead, they were able to schedule the work within 1-2 weeks. They arrived on time and were very efficient, finishing a little earlier than I had expected. In addition to the radon remediation they patched a foundation crack for considerably less money than companies that specialize in foundation repair."

"A++ service. Mike performed an excellent job testing a house we are in the process of purchasing in addition to the Radon testing. We found him to be personable, straight forward, detailed, honest and informative. Each area of concern, Mike provided clear details for the rating given which included pictures with arrows pointing to the exact location. Overall process went smoothly. Would gladly hire again in the future and/or provide as a reference."

"The inspector and the quality of the inspection report were absolutely professional. The work was completed in a timely fashion and the inspector was available to answer questions after the report was provided. We did have some unnecessary drama with the subcontractor that was to do the radon test that Domicile arranged, which is the only reason I gave them a B for professionalism. We ended up using another company to do the radon test, but the drama caused an unnecessary delay. I would hire Domicile again as I have had prior experiences with them and their work has always been of the best quality."

"This is the second time we've used Mr. Lisse. He was first recommended to us by our realtor as "the guy he would use if he were buying a new house". Jeff performs a very thorough inspection of every part of the house. He invites the prospective homebuyer to follow along throughout the whole process as he points out every high and low point of the property. He takes many pictures during the process and delivers an incredibly detailed report outlining all potential concerns, along with his recommendations on how to best go about remedying them. He also works closely with another company that provides radon testing services and can arrange for that service (at an additional charge) to take place concurrently with the inspection.

I believe we may have received a repeat customer discount of around $50, so the price quoted above may be lower than what might be expected for new clients, but no matter the price, this is the guy you want to check things out for you before you invest your savings in a new home.

Highly recommended."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Riverside, IL

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
