"They gave me the information on their process, along with a quote if mold was present. They suggested first step was to remove everything from attic to check for leak and/or mold. Fortunately the problem was solved by removing items from attic which allowed an improved air flow. Very helpful over the phone. Thank you."

"Mark came out to look at the area in question. He made some recommendations for size and design to match the style and look of the house. He sketched out the patio dimensions and provided a price. I hired them and they came to perform the work as scheduled."

"We were extremely pleased with them.  The estimate was very upfront - John quoted the price for the chimney replacement and additional costs we might incur depending on what they found inside.  All very reasonable.  When we got the estimate they said they would be out within two weeks, but it might be sooner if they had time at the end of another job (since ours would be a quick job).  We indicated that would be fine.  A few days later John called in the afternoon and asked if it would be okay to come out that day, and they arrived about an hour later.  We selected the brick right then and were very pleased with the selection.  They found the best access point to the roof that woudn't damage our flower gardens, and put carpetting on the roof to protect the shingles.  They had the old one torn down and the new one up very quickly.  They also checked the chimney for condensation (found none) and checked the chimney in the basement for other evidence of leakage or condensation (found none).   We were very pleased to see them use the extra mortar left over from the chimney to patch cracks between the foundation blocks of our front porch (they did this on their own, we didn't have to ask them to do it).  Their workers were polite and professional, and they tore down and put up the new chimney in less than 2 hours.  I paid them the same day (the price was exactly as quoted), even though they told me they needed to let the mortar set up until the next day before they could attach the flashing around the chimney.  They returned the next day at 9 AM and finished the job.  We were very impressed.  We found them on Angie's List and called them based on their other good recommendations."

"One screw type pier installed. 2 workers hand dug hole below bottom of foundation. Cleaned out under foundation for platform. Although foundation was deeper than I thought, the hole was done much better and quicker than I envisioned. Pier was screwed at bottom of hole with a hydraulic motor. Once limit on hydraulic pressure was reached, the pier was cut at proper level, platform installed, and cracked section of foundation was raised with a hydraulic jack. Crack in stonework closed up nicely without going too far and creating additional cracks. Workers had 5 and 15 years experience doing this work. Very professional and did a very nice job every step of the way. Note that I (homeowner) chose to move and reinstall landscaping stones and gutter drain. Also, tuckpointing/repairing the cracks was not included in the quote. I plan to do that myself at a later date."

"I had a very complicated problem with a wood burning fireplace with gas starter and previous companies said I needed to run a new gas line and needed a new liner for over $3000. The owner John of the company came out for free, located where my gas line originated with the shut off valve (that 2 other companies could not find), called an inspector and did research, and informed me my existing gas line that goes under the slab will work but we should do a pressure test. He performed this analysis for free.   I am hiring him to do a pressure test for $89 and if we go forward with converting our fireplace to gas logs, I will use this company.  John is very knowledgeable and professional. <br />"

"The whole process was done very professionally all the way from the first visit and inspection through the professionally prepared quotation to co-ordination (we had a weather problem) to the actual work and then the follow up inspection for final approval. We not only are extremely pleased but have contracted for some additional work to be done on our home in the near future. You won't go wrong using Palmer Construction for your project."

"Mike and Dustin arrived on time and were very friendly, professional and efficient. They wore shoe covers and protected my new carpeting with a drop cloth. When I purchased this condo in the fall, the home inspector suggested I have the fireplace inspected and I thought that was a great idea, especially because I would not have turned it on anyway in fear of a gas leak or some other malfunction, not knowing what condition it was in. Mike took pictures of everything, showing me the make, model and serial numbers in case I need to contact the manufacturer in the future. He also sent me a link to the User Manual online and gave me step-by-step instructions for lighting the pilot light in case it goes out in the future. Mike was able to tell immediately that there had never been a wood burning fire in the fireplace, as the chimney was clean. They went up on the roof to inspect things and found that the chase cover needs work. I emailed the picture they took of the chase cover along with Mike's comments to my condo association, making them aware that it needs servicing. Mike emailed me all the pictures he took and I will definitely keep them in my gas log fireplace file. End of story ... I was very pleased and would use Doctor Flue's services again in a heartbeat, and I will recommend them to others. As finances allow, I may upgrade to one of the newer, state-of-the-art systems that Mike described! <br />"

"It was a quick fix and I really liked that I did not have to replace all the concrete. I am able to walk up to the door now with ease. The chipmunks will be very upset that they will not be able to hide under the concrete walkway anymore. I was comfortable with the company and they made sure that I was happy with the job. They were really a wonderful company to deal with."

"David Nelson is a very professional fellow.  He listened to the needs that I had to cover a cracked concrete front stoop and one step with Ohio Blue flagstone to match a walkway that was recently added.  When I first contracted with him his work schedule was such that he couldn't start for about 4 weeks.  He gave me a very fair quote and a 50% payment was made.  Although David was 3-4 days late in starting, he had accessional rationale.  Once he got started, he battled a terrible scourge of mosquitos and a very rainy week to get the work done.   <br /> I was unhappy with how recessed one stone in the center of the top step was.  I mentioned it to him and he professionally corrected the stone to my satisfaction.  He is very kind, soft-spoken, professional and conscientious. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Rives Junction, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
