"I personally would not recommend Altamont Inspections to anyone. November 2020 Eddy performed an inspection on my home before purchasing. The home has oil heat with an oil furnace in the basement. While he was thorough in some areas, he neglected to include information about the condition of the furnace or any pictures of it in his inspection report, only a picture of him pointing a temperature gun at a vent stating the heat worked/manufacture date. However, after moving into the home January 3rd, 2021, I began to hear strange noises from the furnace. An HVAC tech came out to inform me life-threatening levels of Carbon Monoxide were being released into my home due to the furnaces malfunction. I had been living there for only a few days...I was informed by the tech that "based on the furnace appearance and condition it is clear that it has not been properly maintained"....If Eddy had included pictures of the furnace in the original report and adequately inspected the appearance of it and informed me, I may have had a chance to negotiate with the seller or choose to further inspect the furnace before purchasing the home. Instead, I was unaware of the conditions of a furnace that could have cost my life and now is costing me thousands of dollars to replace."

"Paul Davis Restoration was recommended by our insurance company when we sustained damage to our porch from a fallen tree in March. The man who came out to inspect it assured us that the estimate would be uploaded to our insurance by that Wednesday. Wednesday came and went...no estimate. I called the Asheville office, where an employee told me that the report had to go through a "third party to be approved" before it could be submitted to State Farm. 'Mike' hadn't explained any of this to us. This woman assured me that it should be submitted no later than "next Wednesday." Yet another week passes...no estimate. I called the office again, where I was told that I needed to contact 'Mike' for any information. I did just that, and he claimed that he was not in the office, and that he would have to check on it when he got there. Another 24 hours passes without a phone call. When I called him again, he casually mentioned that this mysterious "third party" had sent his report back to him for a couple of corrections, and that it should uploaded to our insurance by (you guessed it) no later than that next Wednesday. ('Mike's customer service skills certainly left something to be desired.) Once more, nothing. The next time that I called, I asked to speak with someone in charge. I was given the name of the owner, 'Sharon.' The first couple of interactions with her were positive, and she seemed very helpful. Yet, once again, this "third party" was blamed for the significant delays in sending our estimate to State Farm. After a couple of communications back and forth, my husband and I were extremely frustrated by ANY lack of progress. I finally texted Sharon and asked her to send our estimate directly to us. She informed that 48 hours after the estimate was finalized, that they were 'allowed' to give it to us, and she would email it to me in the morning. Next day? Nothing. Once again, I had to text her and ask that it be sent to me. Sharon claimed that she thought she had sent it, but would send it again. And, since I'm writing this review, you can guess what happened...NOTHING. We NEVER received a copy of our estimate. I called State Farm, where one of the agents handling our claim said that they had finally received it, but that he doubted they would pay out the total amount for the work, because it looked as if the estimate given was excessive. Needless to say, it is over a MONTH later, we still have a severely damaged, unstable porch, and are looking for another contractor/restoration company. I have since heard from reliable sources that my husband and I are not the only ones who have had bad experiences with this particular office. Delay, excuses, confusion, and lack of meaningful customer service were the only things that we took away from our encounter with Paul Davis Restoration of Greater Asheville."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Rutherfordton, NC

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
