More details: I contacted several roofers, and joined them on the roof of my house looking at various details that needed addressing. I have a mixed roof, with some shingled areas and other flat areas. It presents a number of concerns, not just limited to the complexities of how to keep things watertight, but also including details such as where water is legally allowed to drain. Mike was the star of the lot that I spoke to. While all the experts I contacted had some insight as to why my roof had issues, Mike was far more insightful and comprehensive about what needed to be done to effect a permanent solution. In some areas, the crew ended up stripping and (due to site requirements) hand carrying away a total of three old wonky layers of roofing, and then installing a new, modern roof. I had him check my roof and he patched up the area around the fireplace, explaining what he was doing each step of the way. He also sealed all the roof vent pipes.
