"Job was to construct two carports. The construction team was very friendly, helpful and professional. The estimate was reasonable and accepted. The entire process was explained and all questions were addressed. During construction, several changes were requested by me and were made by the crew at no additional cost. The contractor obtained the permit from the city and saved me the trouble. A last minute request by me was made to remove a dish from my roof and the crew removed it with no charge. Would I recommend this contractor. Absolutely yes."

"This is a warning to anyone considering PMG Solar / PMG Home. They started a solar PV installation at my parents? home in November and never finished the job. They installed panels on the roof, replaced the service panel, set the battery bank, and mounted the controller?but left everything unconnected and unusable. Since then, it has been nothing but excuses and broken promises. They claimed a ?backordered motherboard,? then promised to return at the beginning of 2026?no show. Then March 2nd?again, no show. Now they won?t even answer calls. My parents are senior citizens who trusted this company, and now they?re left with a partially installed system that does absolutely nothing. This is unacceptable and completely unprofessional. If this is how PMG Solar / PMG Home treats customers, especially elderly homeowners, people need to know. This company is not reliable, does not follow through, and does not stand behind its work. Do not trust them with your home or your money. Finish it!!"

FAQs for wood shake or composite roofing installation and replacement projects in San Juan, TX

Cedar shakes and wood shingles might seem similar, but they have some important differences. Cedar shakes are hand-split, giving them a unique, textured appearance that adds rustic charm to your roof. They're great for homeowners who want a distinctive look. Wood shingles, conversely, are machine-made, providing a smooth, uniform appearance for a more modern look. Shakes tend to be more expensive due to the craftsmanship involved but offer exceptional beauty and resilience.

A well-maintained cedar shake roof can last up to 60 years. However, factors like severe weather and improper ventilation can reduce its lifespan. You should consider replacing your roof if you notice persistent leaks, visible water damage, curling or splitting shakes, moss growth, rot, or missing shakes. Regular inspections can help you determine when it's time for a replacement.

When hiring a roofing contractor for your cedar shake roof, asking the right questions is important. Make sure they are fully certified and have extensive experience with cedar installations. Verify that their team is licensed, bonded, and insured. Ask for details about the materials they use, such as the type of underlayment and fasteners, and how they ensure proper ventilation. Getting multiple written estimates can help you compare options and choose a contractor who offers quality workmanship at a fair price.
