"We had a wood glider that was creaking heavily, and we needed the repairs in a short time frame. John told us that he was booked up until that deadline, but took the time to dialogue about the issue by phone and text message. He correctly diagnosed the issue with our glider and suggested the perfect fix. He even followed up a few weeks later to make sure everything worked. We would certainly use JMD Wood Restoration if we ever need a wood repair again!"

"I had tried to strip the paint off an antique wooden file cabinet, but ran into allergy problems with the stripper.  The people at Second Time Around stripped the old paint off and filled some places where the wood had deteriorated.  It's ready for me to put my finish on. <br /> <br /> They loaded and unloaded my cabinet carefully and were always very professional."

"Just bought the house.  Didn't want to rip out the well-built cabinets but they looked kind of dirty.  Other options were to paint the beautiful oak wood, but we really didn't want to do that either.  So, it came down to cleaning them.  At the end of the day the cabinets looked beautiful, clean, with sort of a semi-gloss finish.  Looked really good and for the price it was well worth it."

"This is the second time we have used Designs by Roberta. This time we needed a complete kitchen remodel. Nothing had been updated for many years. Roberta’s design was perfect. She has professional contacts , all of whom are honest. The craftsmanship for the kitchen cabinets is outstanding. The painting is perfect. The flooring is beautiful. The countertop is wonderful. Roberta has the ability to envision a complete project and yet is willing to let us express what we would like. She’s easy to work with, reasonably priced, totally professional. I’d definitely will use her again and highly recommend her."

"Cabinets are installed and beautiful.  Work leading up to installation was a little harried because as a normal course of events they don't actually do the backsplash.  They suggested and contacted someone that did install the backspash and did a very nice job.  As a suggestion to Kitchens by Katie, if you incorporated more workers like Chris Hall that did the drywall,  the tile guy and solid surface countertops instead of suggesting very good workers, have the process more seamless with your business .  Other than that - the cabinets went well and look great. <br />"

"I called and had a visit for ideas and an estimate within a day.  Jeff had some great ideas and at a cost I could afford.  The work was completed about 5 weeks after signing the contract due to ordering the material and getting me on the schedule.  The main person I worked with was Chris, and he was great.  He kept in contact with what was going on, and did a wonderful job.  All the cabinets were removed, the bulkheads taken out, my ugly ceiling was redone and then the cabinets and backsplash put in.  It's amazing the change in my little kitchen.  There is so much storage now and it's so pretty.  Definately will use this company again! <br />"

"Larry came out to assess my project and told me he could do it. We discussed options for covering the area. He quoted me a price for labor and wrote up an agreement for me to sign. He purchased the supplies and did the work the same day. I was pleased with his work. I won’t have to worry about the plastic coming down. He did a good job of engineering the project. He was friendly and respectful which is not always the case when a woman hires a man. $"

FAQs for cabinets refinish projects in Sand Lake, MI

To find the best cabinet refinishing expert for your project, start by researching local pros and reading reviews from previous customers. Reach out to a few contractors to discuss your cabinets' size, condition, and the look you're aiming for. Don't hesitate to ask for references or examples of their past work. Speaking with previous clients can give you valuable insights into the pro's workmanship and reliability.

When speaking with potential cabinet refinishing pros, consider asking them several questions to gauge their experience and professionalism. These questions can help you gauge the pro's experience and determine if they align with your needs.

  • Do you offer a guarantee on your work?

  • Can you create custom finishes or colors?

  • Do you have examples or samples of your past projects?

  • Are you able to match the finish to other cabinets in my home?

  • How long will the project take from start to finish?

Regular care will help maintain the beauty of your cabinets for years to come. To keep your refinished cabinets looking their best, follow these steps:

  • Use gentle cleaners: Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. A simple mixture of warm water and mild dish soap works well.

  • Clean carefully: Instead of spraying solutions directly onto the cabinets, apply them to a soft microfiber cloth and wipe gently.

  • Protect from heat and moisture: Try to minimize exposure to excessive heat or moisture, which can affect the finish over time.

It's usually less costly to refinish cabinets than to replace them, depending on the cabinet condition. Refinishing cabinets cost an average of $3,114 while replacing cabinets is about $5,000 or more. When deciding to refinish or replace cabinets, consider several factors, including how old your cabinets are, your budget, and whether you need to complete any other renovation projects at the same time.

It may be worth resurfacing (also known as refacing) your cabinets if they’re in good shape but you’re interested in a different look. This is often less expensive than replacing cabinets outright and can allow you to update the look of your cabinets to reflect your kitchen’s current style without having to get rid of them entirely. The cost to reface cabinets is around $4,300 to $10,000, and you can hire a local cabinet refacing pro to handle this work.

Refinishing cabinets takes about two to three days to complete. The process begins with removing cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware, followed by cleaning, stripping, and sanding the surfaces. Any chips, stains, or splits are repaired before applying paint or stain. After applying the finish, the cabinets are reassembled, and the workspace is cleaned up, leaving your cabinets refreshed and renewed.
