"NO STARS! I will never hire him again. He's a liar and he seriously overcharges. I told him about our drafty exterior office door and how I was told by another contractor friend whom I trust that the door frame needed to be replaced. But Jack of All Trades guy said it only needed weather stripping, told us he brought some with him, and asked if we wanted him to install it. We said yes but now wish we hadn't. He charged us $60 for 19 feet of weather stripping, the simple sticky-sided kind, that I now know only costs $31 for a 60-foot roll on Amazon. He said it costs him $20 per strip. I now know it doesn't come in strips--it comes in rolls. AND OUR DOOR IS STILL DRAFTY! He also charged us $100 for driving to our house, which is less than a 30 minute a drive for him. All of this is especially terrible behavior given the state of the economy right now with the majority of people dealing financial troubles, and this ******* came in and screwed us over BIG TIME! Don't hire him!"

"I suppose that if you call yourself "Dependable" right in your name, you have to live up to it, and Dependable David definitely lives up to it. First of all, he answers the phone and gets back to you. Sometimes, this is to tell you that he has no room in his schedule to take on your task. But at least he gets back to you to let you know. And if he does commit to doing work for you, he's there when he says he'll be there. He also does good, solid work. And he listens carefully to what you're asking him to do. If you ask him to be extra neat when painting, he'll be extra neat. If you ask him to tape everything, he'll tape everything. He bills by the hour, so this allows him to be more careful or take extra time to do something just right, if you ask him to. He doesn't need to rush, because he bills by the hour. He also doesn't farm out the work to a bunch of different guys. He shows up himself and does the work. In our case, he ended up swooping in and saving the day after our previous contractor made a royal mess of the job and had to be fired. So far, for us, he has done: --Mudding and painting a large room, including high ceilings and stair wells. --Mudding and painting an entire kitchen. --Installing natural (unpainted) Hickory baseboard molding in our entire 2-story house (including applying polyurethane to the molding before installing). This was an absolutely gigantic job (491 feet of molding), with so many cuts and corners, including some tiny detail areas where the new molding had to mate with existing woodwork (like around the staircase). --Framing, drywalling, and mudding a new hall closet. He also sourced the door for us. In this case, he only had one free day in his schedule, but he didn't over-promise, and told us that he would only have time to frame/drywall and do the first coat of mud (I would have to finish sanding, mudding, painting, installing the door, and trim myself). And he did exactly what he said he would do. All of this work has been great in terms of quality. David is also a friendly guy. He's fun to talk to. And he seems like the kinda guy you can trust in your home. But most of all... he's dependable!"
