"Fresh Face Cabinet Refacing is an excellent company to work with. Ken the owner met with us several times to come up with a design that we absolutely love. Ken built seven new cabinets and installed them. Installed soft-close on all the doors and drawers and redesigned the existing cabinets and peninsulia. He added decorative feet and raised panel to our cabinets and peninsula creating a custom furniture style look. We highly recommend Fresh Face Cabinet Refacing!"

"We had a great experience working with Ariel and AV Cabinetry! We did a complete remodel of our entire kitchen and Ariel help us with the design and layout of all of our cabinets and an island. Ariel was instrumental in helping us to maximize the utility and storage of our cabinets. Having just demolished a horribly designed kitchen, we were really concerned about designing a kitchen that had plenty of drawers and pullouts and gave us easy access to all of our "stuff". Ariel was definitely up to the task. Ariel was very responsive to all of our requests and provided excellent feedback and opinions when needed. His team was efficient, courteous, and clean. We would definitely recommend him for another kitchen remodel."

"The quality of Mike's work was decent. The price was fair. My advice: if you use Mike be sure to HOLD BACK PAYMENT until all work is complete. Details: resurfacing project for kitchen cabinets, total project ~$10k. Mike resurfaced as well as converted a few cabinets to a better configuration for our needs. He reinforced a few shelves too. I was and continue to be happy with the work. However, there were three things that were never completed, and I wish I had held back payment. He never returned to complete the work, despite following up for months. 1) hinge hardware for several doors is of the wrong type and interferes with use of the cabinets. the fix is to replace the hinges on about 6 of the cabinets. 2) holes were put in the wall to provide room for the wrong hinges. these holes were filled in a completely unprofessional way. when you open the cabinets it is glaring and looks terrible. this is the cabinet where we store plates for dinner, so I am reminded every night. the fix is to fill, sand, and paint these holes AND replace the hinges. 3) he drilled a hole for a door pull in the wrong location. He filled the hole but it's obvious and in a highly visible location. the fix is to replace the door. mike said he ordered but never came by to replace. 4) for a large pantry door, it is clearly visible that screws to mount the door were too long and are pushing out from under the finished surface, again a highly visible location. the fix is to replace the door. mike said he ordered but never came by to replace."

"From the first meeting to get an estimate to the completion of the installation everything went incredibly smoothly. I wanted to add rollouts to my pantry and 2 other large cabinets in my kitchen. I interviewed Precision Rollouts and one other company, and chose Precision Rollouts. I am really happy that I did. From the time Dave came to the house to measure and give a quote to the time he installed our rollouts, Dave was professional and a pleasure to work with. I love that he had his van with examples of what they could do; it was very helpful in deciding what kind of rollout I needed to put where. He made really good suggestions about where to put rollouts with higher sides, and where they were not necessary. When I decided to go with Dave, he was able to install my rollouts a week after our initial meeting (he could have done it 3 days after but that didn't work for my schedule). The installation took about 2-3 hours to do, the rollouts are very high quality, there was no muss no fuss for me to deal with, and I love my rollouts! Dave's price was reasonable and overall I am very happy. There are a few things to know before installing rollouts. You WILL lose some space. A few days before Dave came I reorganized all the places where I was getting rollouts, moving my things away from the sides and back, to see how they would fit, and I ended up doing a bit more reorganizing. I also took pictures so I would remember where I wanted things when the rollouts were installed. Everything fit and I love being able to see where things are, rather than having to pull everything out and crawl into the back of the cabinet. I only wish I had done it sooner!"

"Home Depot provided us the best price for the General Electric over-the-range microwave oven we wanted. They delivered the microwave during the time window they specified and installed it. The only problem lies with the delivery time. Home Depot tells you when it will deliver and install the appliance. If you are not available, delivery is delayed until until there is a time that both you and they can make. The delivery time window is 3 hours. <br />"

"My wife and I were looking to completely open up our kitchen and bring into a modern aesthetic. As you can see in the pictures, we had a very cramped galley style kitchen with 80s style red oak and old appliances. Our project managers, David and Oren, were very easy to work with and understood what we were looking for and made sure to incorporate our needs throughout the design. They were able to remove two major walls to open up the kitchen, and their designer Natali did an amazing job of reconfiguring the cabinets to give us an ample amount of storage. Overall, I'd highly recommend working with SOD Home Group, and specifically with Oren and David. They were very professional, always attentive to our numerous texts and concerns even on the weekends (we were those annoying clients lol). They handled everything with an easygoing nature that was straightforward and honest. We look forward to working with them again on any projects we have in the future! Thanks guys"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Santa Cruz, CA

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
