"Working with Alpha Roofing and Emily was really easy. The estimate was turned around very quickly, and came in under the estimate from the insurance company. They worked with us on the installation date, delaying at our request until it was a good time for us. The installation was very quick; while it was noisy as they told us, it was bearable (dogs were in the basement den with the TV on). Clean up was great. Gutters were done by a subcontractor that was less than ideal; they did not call in advance, and they did not pick up roofing nails that fell out of the gutter when they removed it (luckily I found them before the dogs' feet did). That being said, they were quick, and they did take care of a rotting soffit at a reasonable price. Alpha used an impact-resistant shingle that our insurance rep said will reduce our premium. We have also noticed (or not noticed) that we can't really hear the rain on the roof anymore."

"The work was done quickly and professionally. Great communication about when everything would be taken care of. The crews that came out were polite and I would definitely use them again!"

"Received several estimates for roof replacement and decided on Appelhanz Roofing although their estimate for roof repair was a bit higher than the others, their assessment of all of the damage was the most complete.

Ross was extremely efficient and professional in helping us through the entire process from working through the insurance claim, to arranging all of the various repairs, including roof, gutter, and window replacements, and returning several times to take care of a leak that developed.    He took care to see that everything was completed to our satisfaction.

We were very impressed with the care, service, and professionalism of Ross and Appelhanz Roofing and their subcontractors and highly recommend them.

"Excellent. Couldn't be more pleased! Chuck worked with my insurance company to get all siding replaced along with guttering, etc. on the side of the house the tree fell into. In addition he painted the front of my house and the trim (no siding on the front) and the concrete foundation up to where it met the siding on the remaining sides of the house. Chuck is very meticulous and has high standards. He takes pride in his work. He is honest and fair, and made sure I was satisfied with the work being done as it was being done. This was a big job and it was completed in a timely manner. I do highly recommend this man and his company."

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"How did it go???? It went great, Ryan and his crew busted out and finished all the remodel within the first window. I was only expecting 6 or 7 to be finished, he finished them all. Ryan also had ideas on how to save us money and we incorporated those into the project. We can't wait to remodel the next set of bathrooms, Passow Remodeling will be our go to team."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Scranton, KS

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
