"In 2022, we decided to add a new kitchen and substantially remodel our mid-1960s Edmonds rambler. After reading many on-line reviews and meeting with several contractors we decided to go with Johnson and Sons.....and we are so very happy that we did. From the very start we were impressed with how open, honest and responsive Vic Johnson was, a trend that continued throughout our project. As you might imagine, a significant remodel and addition to a 60-year old home is likely to bring with it surprises and our remodel was no exception. Despite the many challenges encountered, Johnson and Son and their subcontractors readily overcame them. Among the many lessons we learned during our remodel was the value of quality subcontractors. Vic's relationship with his subs in some cases extend more than a decade and the depth of these relationships was reflected by the quality and timeliness of their work. All in all we feel that the workmanship, attention to detail and care shown by all involved in our remodel was superb. We highly recommend Johnson and Sons to anyone looking to remodel their home."

"We ended up not going with Classic Remodeling but would use them again to provide any further project estimates. Classis was very responsive in providing our initial bid and a pleasure to work with. Classic provided a very thorough bid proposal and was always willing to follow up with any questions we may have. It was amazing to us how many contractors were unresponsive or slow in providing bids for our project. This was not the case with Classic and responsiveness rates very high in our opinion."

"We had a great experience working with NRC Homes on a significant remodel as we prepared to move into our new home. They were highly organized, very communicative, and a pleasure to work with. Despite a tight timeline and several changes along the way (Due to changes from us), they delivered everything on time and were incredibly patient and flexible. We’re so grateful for their professionalism and would absolutely recommend them!"

"We are pleased with the quality of work provided by Excel GC. In our second story remodel, we really appreciated the experience and dedication from the foreman, Oscar, and his team. He is very skilled at his trade and runs a professional team. Excel GC has reliable connections to the best subcontractors we have ever worked with. They are friendly, professional and experienced in their trade to handle complex remodels. From building a shed to a major home remodel Excel GC is more than capable of any project and will deliver high-quality work. Additionally, their experience in the industry helped provide direction and guidance when tough decisions had to be made. "I can highly recommend Val to handle any remodeling job you have. Mine started as a kitchen, bathroom, staircase remodel but grew to an almost complete home remodel. Foundation issues were discovered in my 1949 built home that required the management of multiple subcontractors, architectural services, permit processes. Val and his team were able to manage everything that came up. The process took twice as long as originally planned because of the foundation issues, but Val handled all issues that came up. He kept me informed of timelines, vendor issues and remained wonderfully helpful throughout it all. My daughter and her husband signed Val up for their remodel as a result of the help and expertise he provided with my remodel."

"Premium home Builders was the contractor we went with to remodel our kitchen. We contacted 5 general contractors and got bids before deciding on going with Tony from Premium Home Builders. The project included demoing the existing countertops and cabinets in the kitchen, extending the existing hardwood flooring from the living room through the dining room and into the kitchen, relocating the water and drain lines for sink, adding a LPG line for the new cooktop, relocating electrical outlets, framing and drywall of soffit to extend an existing one, then the new cabinets were installed, countertops after that and all of the appliances installed. It was a total transformation as you can see in the before and after pictures. We are very happy with how this remodel turned out and all of the little extras Tony and his crew did to make us happy. Tony’s bid was one of five we got for the project, and his bid was the lowest. We were skeptical about going with the lowest bid but we did since Tony wasn’t using box store cabinets, but rather custom built cabinets (with all of the bells and whistles that are options for box store cabinets) for the unusual shape of our kitchen. Tony and team also came up with other ideas and suggestions that we really liked that the others bids didn’t have in them. Our house is a true octagon house. The kitchen is located in one of the 8 wedge shapes of the octagon and has a rectangular atrium on the outside wall. So it is a usual shape. Thank you Tony and the team from Premium Home Builders. We really love the finished project."

"All my projects have gone very smoothly with Andrew and his team. From the initial bidding and planning process to the detailed workmanship and pivots along the way, I’ve been really happy with the outcomes. When you have multiple projects and people coming in and out of the house, it’s important that you trust who you’re working with and feel that you’re getting the attention to detail that is necessary from materials selection and sourcing, to execution. I trust the company to provide me with clear bids, and if anything unexpected comes up “inside the walls” it is handled professionally. Even after projects have been completed, Andrew and his team have been available for other smaller follow on projects and are always happy to come by and take a look at whatever it is that I have questions about and are able to either do the work between projects or have referred me to a trusted network of electricians, HVAC and other specialists. Highly, highly recommend. :-)"

"Ryan was great to work with - he was prompt, punctual and detailed and clearly knows his stuff. We didn’t go forward because we decided to purchase another home instead of remodeling the existing one, but had we continued with our original plan, we would definitely moved forward with Ryan."

FAQs for remodel to accommodate a disability projects in Seattle, WA

Standard Medicare coverage often doesn't extend to home modifications, such as roll-in showers. In specific circumstances where medical necessity is clearly established, limited coverage might be available through certain Medicare programs. Many homeowners explore alternative funding sources such as home modification grants, veterans' benefits, or specialized financing programs designed for accessibility improvements. Consulting with a Medicare representative about your specific situation provides the most accurate guidance.

Roll-in showers deliver significant benefits beyond their monetary return, particularly in terms of safety, independence, and long-term accessibility. By eliminating barriers to bathing, these installations help prevent falls while accommodating mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers. Their open design creates a contemporary appearance that appeals to many homebuyers. For households planning to age in place or accommodate family members with mobility challenges, the functional advantages often outweigh pure financial considerations.

A standard roll-in shower installation takes two to four days. Projects requiring extensive renovation or plumbing changes may take longer, potentially extending to several weeks or months. Factors affecting the timeline include existing bathroom configuration, permit processing times, contractor availability, and material delivery schedules. Creating proper drainage slopes often requires additional preparation time compared to traditional shower installations, particularly when modifying existing floor structures.
