"They missed their first appointment to give an estimate. Chepi was scheduled to come and Shay Dee Barber showed up several hours early for the next appointment and began "doing work" when no one was home. No contract or permission was given to do any work. He tried to give an invoice which was 8 times tghe estimate from other roofers. His "work" had to be torn out and thrown away by another vendor I had to hire because Shay Dee Barber did such a poor job. Shay Dee Barber has no roofing skills. He angrily threatened "I'll put a lien on your house" which was laughable as he had no contract. L&I, who grants licenses said he only has a general contractors license and there is no skill needed. This is a "contractor" to stay away from!!"

"Hired to inspect the rattle sound coming from the roof during windy conditions. He showed up and said 3 roof vents need replacement. Outsourced the job and the next rain ended up in a leak from a screw for one of new vents damaging attic insulation, master bath ceiling (water pooled and dripped down from the can light in the master bath that was just under the leak). He first refused to accept responsibility and then refused to pay for the repairs to the interior damage. He is also not insured. On top of it, he was a total a**hole of a person when he showed up eventually to take a look at the damage and kept questioning the cause for the interior damage. I paid $800 outnof pocket to fix the interior damage and repaint it. "

"Very poor quality work for an extremely high cost. I hired Taylor Masonry to repair my chimney crown for a quoted $2,500. Once work began, they said the 90-year-old chimney needed a partial rebuild and charged $9,500 ? more than a previous $8,000 quote I had received for a full rebuild. I proceeded because the project manager, Hector, promised fast, high-quality work that would last at least 15 years. The job was completed quickly, but when I inspected the roof, I found cement spilled across my new shingles, several torn shingles, and an uneven crown. Nothing about the work justified the price. A chimney sweep later told me he was shocked by the poor workmanship. Although the project lead apologized and promised to fix the issues, repeated follow-ups have resulted in no cleanup or resolution. Save yourself the headache and hire someone else."

Small jobs welcome

"Why can we only leave a 5 star rating? Christopher and crew exceeded our expectations for our restoration project. Our project was to replace the decorative wrap on the 16 foot support columns on the entrance porch at the front of our house. The original wrap was 20 years old and parts had begun to rot. During the bid process Christopher suggested that we replace the wooden wrap with a Hardy plank type material that would last longer than wood. (the original wood wrap was painted). During the removal of the original wrap we noticed that the wrap framing was fairly lightweight, just enough to give the wrap something to be nailed to. Christopher removed the lightweight framing and installed a stronger frame. The new wrap that was installed looks considerably better and richer. The attention to detail, down to the router work on decorative panels, is impressive. Christopher was very responsive to our questions and every day they left the worksite spotlessly clean. "

FAQs for traditional stucco repair or partially replace projects in Seattle, WA

Minor stucco fixes—like sealing small cracks or adding fresh caulk—often wrap up in an hour or two. Larger jobs that call for cutting out damaged sections, installing new lath, and layering fresh stucco can stretch to three or four days because each coat needs time to cure. A pro removes loose material, cleans and dampens the area, applies a bonding agent, and builds up new layers, matching texture and restoring the wall’s weather shield.

Watch for a stucco surface that stays damp days after a storm, develops dark stains, or feels soft or spongy under light pressure. Inside, moisture rings, peeling paint, or soft drywall around windows point to the same issue. Any of these red flags mean water is trapped behind the siding, and it’s time to call a stucco pro before rot or mold sets in.

Give your stucco a once-over every spring and fall. Semiannual checks let you catch hairline cracks, stains, or damp spots before they snowball into pricey repairs. Keep a flashlight handy, look closely around windows and doors, and call a pro if you notice anything soft or discolored. Staying ahead of minor issues protects both your curb appeal and your home’s weather barrier.

A pro starts by scraping away loose material, then cleans and lightly wets the area so new stucco will stick. After brushing on a bonding agent, they build fresh layers, letting each coat cure before adding the next. The final step is matching the texture and color so the patch blends in and the wall regains full weather protection.

Think of repair as a patch: the pro fixes only the visible crack or hole. Remediation goes deeper—crews strip away the compromised stucco, correct the root problem (often water or mold), then rebuild the wall. If tests show structural rot or trapped moisture, remediation is the safer, longer-lasting route; otherwise, a straightforward repair often does the trick.
