"Scott came out to do the repairs. I had several plumbing issues and didn't expect to have them all completed the same day, but Scott managed to get them all done in one afternoon, including making s run for parts and a new disposal. He explained the cause of each issue and his planned fix before he went ahead. Most of of it ended up being relatively small repairs but I know some plumbers would have replaced rather than fixed to make more money. Very honest, good communication, reasonable pricing, skilled work - I will call them for all of my plumbing needs."

"I had no idea that each specialty from installation, drywall, tile repair and painting all had to be coordinated when installing a new shower. Herr (Rick) and (Peggy) were very instrumental in scheduling and finding a quality shower door at a reasonable market rate given todays production hiccups. I have read all the ratings, seen the You Tube videos on bathroom make overs from Bis Box Specialty Companies, and believe me you cannot go wrong with this local ma and pa company in terms of pricing, quality, and installation. Excellent job!"

"Great.  Holt has installed a dual sump with a battery backup for me.  Completed some plumbing work and checks my air conditioner and furnace at the start of each of their seasons.  I will continue to do business with Holt. <br />"

"It was just some of the fixtures were kind of cheap that they brought like for the toilet lids, and we had a leak.  Overall, they were a good company, they were just not an A on some of the stuff."

"I called Smith's yesterday and they were able to accommodate us with an appointment this morning. The tech was prompt and courteous. He was kind to explain what he was doing and was careful to clean up after himself. Within minutes, he got us up and running again! I should have called them the second time we had an issue with our plumbing... I probably spent more in drain cleaner!"

"I am glad I found Handy guy to do the job. Other companies wouldn't help since it was a basement window. The day of they arrived on time and had zero issues. We discussed replacing storm windows as well for my back porch. I will definitely use this company again"

"David was great to work with. We had a cracked toilet tank. I found a promotion for a new Toto Toilet from American Plumbing Supply through Angie's List. This was an old promotion but they honored it anyway. David came out the next morning and within an hour we had a new toilet! He was very courteous and even took the old toilet away. Everything was top notch. Will definitely use again."

"A home we had bought needed radon mitigation to reduce the radon level below the EPA recommended 4 pCi/L level. Being an older home which had been extensively added onto by previous owners, the construction which included approx. 1/3 over a small basement, 1/3 over two separate areas of concrete slab, and 1/3 over a very low overhead clearance crawl space complicated consideration of how best to correct the radon issue. Before contacting Neighbors Plumbing, Heating, A/C & Radon I had visited with and received estimates from several other companies but the only option they presented was variations of the usual sub-slab depressurization type system, which would have presented complications to install in this application and been very time-consuming. When I contacted Neighbors, after inspecting our home, in addition to the usual sub-slab depressurization method their very knowledgable representative Randy Newman was able to present a quote for an entirely different available radon reduction option, installation of the RenewAire Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV) system. It's cost was competitive with the other options, and the unit itself very well adapted to both the location where it would be installed and the existing radon levels we wished to lower. So we scheduled an installation date. The installation went perfectly in every way, from the arrival of Randy and Scott around 8:30am until completion by noon. They managed to mount the ERV unit in the most ideal location, a small upper storage 'attic' above a bedroom with short runs of duct work, carefully and logically laid out to conserve space. The workmanship and efficiency by Randy and Scott in completing this installation was really exceptional, the system works exactly as expected. Based on our experience, I would highly recommend calling Neighbors for an estimate on any radon mitigation work you are considering!"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Slater, IA

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
