"Right from the start everything went like "clockwork". Communications and scheduling were timely and accurate. Marsha kept us informed every step of the way. The estimate for the job was fair and reasonable and we signed on and scheduled the job. Showing up on time, communicating necessary information such as delivery of supplies and job scheduling are important. They followed through perfectly. The job was done in one day, the crew was professional, experienced and very clean. We are delighted with our new patio and we do not hesitate to recommend Exotic Pavers to anyone. So, do yourself a big favor, call them for an estimate...you'll be very glad you did!!"

"One screw type pier installed. 2 workers hand dug hole below bottom of foundation. Cleaned out under foundation for platform. Although foundation was deeper than I thought, the hole was done much better and quicker than I envisioned. Pier was screwed at bottom of hole with a hydraulic motor. Once limit on hydraulic pressure was reached, the pier was cut at proper level, platform installed, and cracked section of foundation was raised with a hydraulic jack. Crack in stonework closed up nicely without going too far and creating additional cracks. Workers had 5 and 15 years experience doing this work. Very professional and did a very nice job every step of the way. Note that I (homeowner) chose to move and reinstall landscaping stones and gutter drain. Also, tuckpointing/repairing the cracks was not included in the quote. I plan to do that myself at a later date."

"Great company. This service call was only for a yearly check on my gas fireplace, but in addition Kevon went up on my roof to make sure the work they did on my chimney last year was still in good shape. They are prompt, efficient, and extremely thorough sending pictures of all their work step by step. Highly recommend."

"Bdry's crew were on time and completely professional! Latrell explained what they were doing, keeping me updated during the whole process. They laid down drop clothes and covered my basement steps with plastic. I was impressed that such a messy job didn't make more of a mess! Highly recommend them!"

"Wow! We are impressed! The work was done in a timely manner, always with a cheerful smile and the project looks fantastic! We did major renovations to the inside of our home when we moved in - and could not locate someone who knew how to paint the concrete (other than someone other than Homeland Renovations who assumed they knew what to do - and in our conversations we realized they did not). This type of painting requires expertise. The kind of paint used for around the pool area (so children won't slip), the knowledge of how to repair the concrete area, the ability to move the plants and furniture off and on the area, the beauty of the completed task were all considerations we had for choosing Homeland Renovations.

Cheryl and Bryan are delightful people who are efficient, caring (they made sure we loved the paint color!), and professional. It was hard work, but they were always willing and ready to do what it took to make their customer happy. True Customer Service! My husband and I felt that the price was very fair for the work that needed to be completed.

If this were the only project we did with Angie's List (and it isn't and won't be) - I'd say we got our money's worth for the cost of Angie's List on this one project alone. (THANK YOU ANGIE!)"

"I did use Alpha and Omega to rebuild my brick/concrete porch and replace the driveway and walks (spring 2010). Not only did they do a horrendous job, they did significant damage to my home's foundation. See my detailed review under Masonry. I gave Alpha and Omega an F."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Somerset-Center, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
