"We first hired Sergio Hernandez. He was to do a large entry way custom cabinet plus bookcases in our study to match the one we already had. We paid him $2,900 to get started with another $2900 due upon satisfactory completion of the work. Sergio took a piece of the decorative trim from the top of the existing bookcase to make sure the trim he used on the new bookcases would be a good match. He planned to use the most expensive wood and assured us the workmanship would be of the highest quality. That was on February 8. Sergio promised all work would be done by the end of the month. A little work was done the following week; then nothing. Repeatedly he said he and his workers would be here on a given day at a certain time, but would not show. He would even text to say he was on his way, but of course he was not. We finally said either get this done, or give us our money back. If he was not able or willing to do the work or refund the money then we would go to the police. Finally Sergio does show up and a little later two other people join him. We had seen one of them before doing some of the work. A few minutes after they arrived Sergio left. These two were Augusto turbo de la Cruz and Angel Ramos. They said Sergio had contracted with them to do the work. They said the reason the work had not been done was they did not have enough money to pay for materials. Sergio had previously given them $1,000 and when they showed up today he gave them $200 more, saying that total - $1,200 - was the entire amount we had given him. They went on to say Sergio told them if they needed more money, it would have to come from us. We showed them a copy of the $2900 check we had given Sergio. They were surprised. They seemed honest and it seemed that they knew what they were doing so we decided to fire Sergio and hire them. We repeatedly, by text and voice mail, let Sergio know we wanted him to refund $1,000 of the amount we had paid him or we would go to the police. We have since filed a police report. We hired Augusto and Angel to complete the work-$1,800 now and another $1800 on satisfactory completion of the work. They asked that we make the check payable to Monica Gonzalez Rangel. That was on March 23. They indicated the work would be completed in less than a week. To make the story a little shorter we will just say we have not seen them since - looks like we will be having another visit with the police, We met Mario and Raul at Gonzalez Tile in Brownsville, What a breath of fresh air. We told them our story. They came to take a look. They showed us where the few materials that had been used were not great quality and would need replacing. No payment until we were satisfied with a completed job. They showed up when they said they would. The cabinet has been completed. It is the first thing you see when you open the front door. It looks great. In fact Mario and Raul worked from a picture we had found in a home design magazine. The cabinet looks just like the picture- only better. We cannot say enough good things about Mario and Raul. We only wish we had found them sooner. We recommend them to you without reservation, Michael & Carol Young, South Padre Island"

FAQs for small projects painting or staining projects in South Padre Island, TX

You'll need about two gallons of paint to fully cover your kitchen cabinets with two coats. Since each gallon covers around 350 square feet, it's a good idea to measure your cabinets or use a paint calculator to determine exactly how much you'll need. Starting with one or two coats of primer and then applying two to three layers of paint will give you a flawless, durable finish. Using high-quality paint can reduce the number of coats needed and provide a long-lasting finish.

The best type of paint for your kitchen cabinets is latex paint because it applies evenly and creates a durable finish. If you're painting wood surfaces and need extra adhesion, acrylic paint is a great alternative. We don't recommend oil-based paint for residential use due to its VOC emissions. For finishes, go with eggshell, semi-gloss, gloss, or satin, as matte finishes aren't as durable or as easy to clean.

The best method for painting kitchen cabinets is spray painting because it gives you a smooth, even finish without brush strokes. While brushes and rollers can work, they often leave marks and require more effort. If you're aiming for a professional look, spray painting is your best bet to enhance the beauty and durability of your cabinets.
