"I was very pleased with the work Craftsmen Home Improvements did installing a new roof. They were very professional; they finished the work in a single day, and they cleaned up the area completely after they were done."

"I hired James earlier this year to replace flooring and a door in my basement bedroom that I wanted to convert to a home office. From the beginning, James was professional and courteous, and his communication was excellent. I am a female and in my thirties, and home remodeling of any kind is not in my realm of expertise, so I really appreciated that James explained things to me thoroughly without being condescending. He gave me a quote upfront and stuck to that price. He also put me in touch with one of his vendors so I could pick out the flooring, and I was very happy with that company. James and his brother removed the old carpeting and installed the new LVP flooring and it turned out perfectly. He also went through the trouble of finding the office door that I wanted instead of me searching for something on my own. I had done my research on the door I wanted, and what James found matched what I was expecting in looks, quality, and price. He also kindly gave me advice on some things I decided to tackle on my own (caulking, sanding, etc.) and that was appreciated. During the time I spent with James, I found him to be very meticulous in his work, which was reflected in the final product of my room. I am so happy with how everything turned out, and I would absolutely hire him again if I ever have any remodeling needs."

"The estimator was one of the only people who inspected the flat roof section. The estimate came quickly and was reasonably priced. However, I had some concerns about what work was actually covered by the estimate and what exactly the warranty would cover."

"A three person team came out on time. They were hard working and quite brave to get up on a wintery roof in Minnesota to remove snow and chip and steam ice dams away. They were careful not to damage anything and left no mess behind. All in all, a very impressive work crew. I chose Doug's based on Angie's List reviews. Another company on the List with strong reviews charges $125/hour more than Doug's and has a three hour minimum whereas Doug has two. Thus, Doug proved to be an excellent choice in my opinion."

"22nd Century Roofing is great to work with. What I thought was just loose facia turned out to be rotting wood. Tyler from 22nd Century Roofing came out to determine the scope of work. The scope of work was very detailed to include photos. He also made sure that new aluminum facia would match my existing facia. The cost was around what I was expecting and there was never any pressure to get the work scheduled. The install crew did a great job and were very professional and cleaned up after they were done."

"Lindus Construction is the best. They installed new roofing and Leafguard gutters to repair damage to our house caused by a hailstorm. The totally new roof was installed in just one day. Replacement Leafguard gutters were installed over several hours on a second day. Materials and workmanship were excellent while Lindus’ workers, supervisors and sales representative were all friendly, knowledgeable and willing to answer any and all of our questions. What really makes Lindus a standout company is how they responded to and fixed a roof rainwater leak that developed after their work on our roof – and the leak turned out to have been caused by another company who had been repairing our chimney at about the same time. Lindus’ employees immediately came to our house to inspect the area where water entered and, because it was wintertime, made plans to fix the problem as soon as it was practicable. It took several attempts to fix the problem permanently but throughout the process Lindus’ employees never doubted us and cheerfully responded promptly. After they tracked the source of the leak to chimney flashing that was incorrectly installed, Lindus’ employees didn’t hesitate to fix the leak anyway and at no charge to us. To make sure we were satisfied and knew that the rainwater leak had been fixed, they invested many hours in finding and fixing a problem that was not their responsibility. That is a company I will trust, employ in the future and recommend to anyone."

"We contacted TR Exteriors LLC on a recommendation of a friend who had used them.  We were moving and needed some repairs on our siding and some windows before we could put our house on the market.  Tim came to our home and gave us an honest assessment of what needed to be done, which made us very happy.  He also clearly laid out the process and how long it would take and when the crew would arrive and all these expectations he set for us were met.  We were even thrilled when they were through with their work that they had also cleaned up as promised.  I highly recommend TR Exteriors LLC for your roofing, siding or window projects"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Forest Lake, MN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
