"Did a really good job. Received multiple bids for my front patio and sidewalk, Tracy Norman Concrete was the most affordable. We had some rain and cold weather, they communicated the entire time to be sure the pour was communicated during proper temps, on dry ground."

"Glenn is the man. Tons of experience and has a great crew of guys. He was the first to reach out and ready to get going right away. We liked the work on the patio so much we hired him to do a white marble driveway install with concrete curbs."

Customers say: Quick response

"The Normans were excellent contractors, unfazed by unexpected issues with wire in the old concrete and sudden rain deluges creating damage to the freshly poured concrete. Both issues were handled well, leaving us with a well done project. The contract price was reasonable, especially for the high quality of their work. In addition, they were a pleasure to know. We highly recommend this professional family business."

"This was a three day job. Day 1 - they edged the grass back from the driveway, power washed all surfaces to be coated, and caulked hairline cracks in the driveway. The surface of the driveway had deteriorated over 20 years to a rough, porous surface condition that was impossible to keep clean. Fortunately, there were no serious cracks in the concrete. Day 2 - they applied narrow tape over the caulked cracks and along the edge of the driveway and walkway to define the borders. They then applied the polymeric base coat by hand troweling the material in a rather uneven fashion to provide a textured surface. As they applied the base, they removed the tape and used a broom stick to scribe the other grout lines and form the flagstone pattern. This displayed a good bit of artistry, and only took about 2 hours in the morning. In the afternoon, they returned and ran a sander over the surface to reduce the roughness and give the final texture that was desired. Again, a good bit of artistry required. Once sanded, they blew the dust and loose particles off and they applied the colored grout to all the grout lines. One person applied the grout from a small plastic bottle with a nozzle cap, while another followed behind to spread and smooth the grout. That was all allowed to dry overnight. Day 3 - they returned in the morning to sponge paint the color to the surface. This was done by hand with large sponges dipped in a thin solution or coloring material. The color was applied first to the borders, then to the entire surface with various shades obtained by how much was applied. The borders received two coats to provide a deeper shade, while the flagstone area was shaded from light to medium. Again, a good bit of artistry involved. The color was allowed to dry for a few hours, and the crew returned in the afternoon to apply two coats of sealer, the second coat including an anti-slip compound. This finished the job. <br /> Instructions were not to walk on the surface for 24 hours, and not drive on it for 1 week. The surface is shiny but not slippery. Rain water beads up on the surface like on a newly waxed car. We are very pleased with the result, and have had many compliments from friends and neighbors. <br /> Nov. 2013 update. We had our three car garage floor coated with no design similar to the front stoop. It has now been ten months and everything still looks like new. The surface is easy to clean and is a big improvement over the bare concrete we started with. One downside to be noted: As mentioned above, water beads on the surface so that even a heavy dew results in a wet driveway, and freezing temperatures can produce an invisible sheet of ice that is very treacherous to walk on. Driving over the ice has not been a problem. Bare concrete tends to absorb small amounts of moisture and not have this problem. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"It went very well. Chuck Petzinger (Technical Consultant) was very professional in providing the estimate, ensuring that we consulted with an engineer, and following the engineer's recommendations. Melvyn and the crew also were very professional. They were careful and courteous, and explained the process thoroughly. As far as I could tell, they followed the appropriate procedures closely. The project, scheduled for 2 days, took 2 and a half days. This probably was because they took their time to be careful, allowed me to watch, and explained things as they went. I recommend Carolina Foundation Solutions."

"I couldn't have been happier with how the project went.  Our job foreman was an elderly gentleman who listened to what I was hoping to achieve and he made is a reality.  We now have a curvy aesthetically pleasing driveway and sidewalk that has increased the curb appeal of our house by 100 fold. <br />"

"Although they were delayed quite a while, due to bad weather, and loss of employees, the wait was well worth it. Bill Bencker and his crew did an outstanding job. They installed 280 sq. ft. of freshly poured concrete. They then stamped it and applied the colors of our choice, and applied hardeners and sealers for protection. They also did a stamped overlay on our existing 100 sq ft patio, which gave us a large 20 ft x 19 ft patio that looks like one solid slab. The workmanship, and care with which they performed was exemplary. They were professional in every aspect and I would not hesitate to use DCS again. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Supply, NC

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
