"Initial rep was great and informative. Felt comfortable with initial sale. Hardly had any contact from customer service except for the payments. There were several delays that we were not informed about unless we called to ask. Took 7 months before they showed up to begin project. Only 1 person was sent to build steps. Took a week. Hard worked, hardly took a break. Had to call again to see when they would come to pour patio. Never knew when they were coming, they just showed up. Hardly spoke with the homeowners. Inspection paperwork was just left on porch. Additional paperwork that is "required by the County" had to be completed by homeowner and taken to Court house to be notarized and filed and also provide a copy back to Long Fence. Time sensitive materials which added to homeowners to-do list. Gave this contract to LF on the surface of their history and appearance of a 'good local company' but should have stayed with original contactors in VA. Puddle of water forms when it rains"

With 52 years of experience, we specialize in both residential and commercial projects, ensuring durability and precision in every job. We pride ourselves on our customer-focused approach, providing tailored solutions and exceptional craftsmanship to meet the unique needs of each client.

"American Custom Contractors did an outstanding job replacing the roof, woodwork, trim, and gutters on our historic 1910 home. The ACC work crews, including carpenters, roofers, and gutter specialists, were highly skilled and experienced. Yanni Agouridis, our project consultant, was extremely helpful in working out the details of the engagement at the outset. Blase Skully, project supervisor and quality assurance manager, was always available to answer many questions and provide advice as we refined the scope of work and the project progressed. He made sure they delivered exactly what we were seeking to accomplish. Blase was also sensitive to ensuring that the historic look of the house was maintained and enhanced by the materials they used and the work they did. The result is beautiful. We get many complements on our new roof and gutters. We highly recommend American Custom Contractors."

Daniel started his construction career in 1983 as an apprentice in Switzerland, Europe. There he learned from experienced old school carpenters how to timber frame and build log houses. Cutting mortise and tenons for structural posts is still something that's done today. Since the late 80's, Daniel has learned all about the ever-changing U.S. construction industry. Daniel started his own remodeling company in 2001 and has since designed and built many additions and remodels in and around Montgomery County, MD. Due to years of experience, Daniel is able to make design changes that make construction easier and cheaper. He has proved himself to be a great communicator so that all parties involved in a remodeling project work as one. His ability to plan, schedule, and execute projects have made jobs less stressful and more rewarding for his clients. Things most frequently mentioned in client reviews are that Daniel and DK are staying within budget, getting the job done on time, are responsive and available, have clean and organized job sites, and are experienced. MHIC LICENSE #81268.

"I wrote a negative review on Angie's list regarding this company which I would like to change. However, once written, Angie's list does not allow one to change or delete the written review. Therefore, I am writing another review. I had some issues, but the issues were all satisfactorily resolved. The problems were mostly miscommunications between the owner and myself. The follow-up work that was completed by Donovan contractors was done in a professional manner."

"I am not a big review writer, but my experience with A&E was so good, I decided I would review them. Both of the owners – Eric and Yodie – were very involved in my project. From the beginning, we reviewed the plans and the space a few times, and I felt they really understand my project – fully remodeling two bathrooms. The also offered suggestions about how overcome any issues they identified in the design and save money without sacrificing quality. They were also very helpful in coordinating with the condo board making sure they followed the rules and got needed approvals. They also navigated the city permitting process and got a permit timely. The work team they used were very reliable and did really great work. But also, either Eric or Yodie came by almost every day to check in and see how progress was going and ensure the quality was to my expectations. Both of my bathrooms look fantastic and are exactly what I wanted. In the one bathroom, they replaced a shower and vanity with concrete top, and installed heated floors and towel rack. New tile throughout, and new mirror, lighting, and toilet. Everything new and looks great. The second bathroom was even more work: I exchanged a shower-tub combo for a walk-in shower featuring a privacy wall that was half-tile and half-glass. I had hoped it would look clean and modern, and it exceeded my expectations. This bathroom also got the full new treatment: new toilet, vanity w/ concrete top, tile, lighting, heated floors and towel bar. And really looks amazing. Somehow feels bigger, and so sleek, but comfortable. Our friends are sooo complimentary about both bathrooms, and I’ve given out the contractor’s information to a lot of them for their own work. The timing for the full remodel – we did first one bathroom, then the next – was about 7 weeks. 3 for the first one and 4 for the second. The best part of this is that is EXACTLY how much time they estimated. When they told me the timeline, I really prepared myself for it to take much longer, but they adhered to the schedule and if something came up – for example one of the existing floors the tile was set in concrete and that had to be busted up – that took longer than expected, they worked extra to make it up. Our place was left clean everyday, and I would even see the team dusting an area close to the work. They enclosed the work area in plastic, but you know how dust is. They made sure that it was spic-and-span so we wouldn’t be inconvenienced. I really recommend these contractors, and already have plans to redo a few other things around the house. Thankfully, just small things, but I think they’ll do small jobs just as well as the major bath renos."

FAQs for countertops installation projects in Takoma Park, MD

Porcelain countertops provide an affordable alternative to granite countertops. Granite installations cost $50 to $200 per square foot, while porcelain costs $50 to $70 per square foot. High-end porcelain prices surpass those of lower-grade granite installations, yet standard off-the-shelf porcelain remains less expensive than most granite options. The material is non-porous, UV-proof, maintenance-free, and exhibits superior damage resistance.

Porcelain countertops offer an improved value when compared with quartz countertops. Quartz installations cost $50 to $200 per square foot, while porcelain costs $50 to $70 per square foot. Lower-quality builder’s grade quartz incorporates additional resin and fillers that diminish its vibrancy and performance. Porcelain resists heat and staining and minimizes surface damage, making it a superior and resilient choice for discerning homeowners.

Porcelain countertops are exceptionally durable and rarely chip during everyday use. They are stronger and more resistant to damage than many natural stone options. However, if a heavy object causes a chip, it can be challenging to repair. Replacing the affected section may be the best solution to maintain the countertop's appearance.

Installing a porcelain countertop takes between one and three days, depending on the size and complexity of your project. The installation process includes removing the old countertop, taking precise measurements, making necessary cutouts, and installing the new countertop properly. By hiring a professional for installation, you’ll ensure a smooth installation process and lasting results.

Consider pairing your porcelain countertop installation with other upgrades to create a cohesive look and potentially save on labor costs. Enhancements like updating cabinets, improving flooring, or refreshing fixtures can elevate your kitchen's aesthetic and add long-term value to your home. When you pair these jobs with porcelain countertop installation, you’ll often find discounted labor rates from local contractors.

Porcelain slabs are engineered with a defined thickness that balances aesthetics and functionality. They measure either 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch to accommodate diverse applications such as wall cladding, shower surrounds, and cabinet facades. The slim profile demands expert handling during fabrication and installation to preserve structural integrity and visual appeal.
