"Every time I’ve used Petersen’s, they’ve been very friendly and did a great job. Today, was no different. After Hunter did what needed to be done for my drain, he helped me with something else. My side door wasn’t shutting properly. He made sure it did before he left. I wasn’t expecting that, and I’m so thankful he helped me out. I appreciate it so much. Call these guys. You won’t regret it."

"I reached out to Ron in a panic after there was a break in a plumbing line which started flooding a storage room. Ron was out at the property within the hour, charged a VERY reasonable price, and did this over a holiday weekend. I couldn't be more grateful to have stumbled across Ron and Metropolitan Plumbing. He is my go-to plumber moving forward. Thanks Ron!"

"Overall the service from start to finish has been very professional. Not only professional but their knowledge of how to make things fit into a space and look good our exceptional. My bathroom for my rental unit looked so good, I had to hire them again! This time they did not disappoint. The second bathroom for my own home is so nice, that I can't believe it is mine. It feels luxurious and came under the price point I wanted to pay. Not only that, they did it during the shortages and helped source and get everything in a timely manner. Their workers Jason, Chris, and Greg all answered questions I had about everything during the process and was never left in the dark. I already plan to hire them again in the future. 10/10 would recommend again!"

"We had water back-up in our basement and didn't know if it was sewage or just water back-up, since we had recently had lots of flooding in our area. The technician explained that since our house had sat empty for 2 years, all the sludge in the pipes settled at the bottom, and needed to be cleared out. We shouldn't have this problem again. He explained what the problem was, and what he was going to do in order to fix it. And then - we forgot our checkbook, and only had $117 in cash on us - and our total was $145.00. He was just going to accept the $117 and be done with it, but we insisted that we'd pay the next day. This was a great transaction, and we will definitely recommend this company to anybody that needs a plumber. <br />"

"Everything went just as expected. Justin B initially came out and gave an estimate and then we had him back a few months later to make adjustments and ask more questions before making the deposit and setting up the date for the project. On the day of installation Justin B was in North Liberty, IA and stopped by to check on the crew's progress . The Foreman Oscar M & Assistant foreman Jaime M were great at explaining what they were going to do and the expectations and time frame. The finished job looks great . They cleaned up and left the area spotless. We are very happy at the way the project turned out."

"Price was very reasonable. Product came in at date expected. Crew was very friendly and cleaned up everything. We had some weather issues on first install date, so crew did what they could and came back on a weekend day to finish the job. <br />"

"He really knew what he was doing and dind't mind us asking questions. Gave us the piece of burst copper piping and old removed sillcock to see what caused the leak and explained how it probably occurred. Changed the angle of the copper feed pipe so it would drain properly when shut off and not freeze next winter. Friendly and nice to work with. We were surprised by the price but did not receive an estimate when requested by phone. I guess they charge for time from work place to where we live as part of the hours on the invoice. Now we know for next time."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Taylor Ridge, IL

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
