"Tom and company did a great job on this project. I spent a lot on this door and finished it myself, so I was very concerned that I hire a pro who would do a proper job and not mar the door during installation. They did a great job. In addition, they had to widen the rough opening to fit the door . The storm was another touchy install, as it was not pre-hung... they had to frame around the door. I'm very happy with their work and recommend them without reservation."

"Sidney and his team are professional, top notch, and work is performed according to estimate as advertised. They repaired a closet that had water damage from an improperly installed rubber roof, and then fixed the roofing so the problem will not happen again. I would recommend Sidney to anyone who needs a general contractor in central Massachusetts!"

"I highly recommend Andrew Porter Contracting for exceptional service and work. During a storm, we lost a few shingles from a dormer. Contacted on Friday, they came out the next day during the April snow storm and did the repair. They arrived exactly when they said, worked quickly, took away all debris and did a fantastic job."

"We had talked to an architect about the project and he was not very supportive of my need to access the basement from inside the house. I called John, after reading the reviews listed on Angie's list. From our first meeting, I knew he was the one we wanted to work with. He was patient and listed to what our vision for the project was. He spent time looking over the work space and offered his own suggestions. This was a very big project as the basement extended the entire length of our house. We also wanted to start the project in the spring but met with him in the fall to start the planning. He was very agreeable to this and planned his schedule to start in early April. The project started the first week in April. We added a new heating system which delayed the actual basement start by about a week. John was always accessible by phone and easy to contact. He did most of the work himself with another carpenter. All of the other service professionals he brought in were also very easy to work with. If I had a problem or concern, John would contact them and follow up. John also tried to keep us on budget. We did upgrade a few of the original project items and needed to replace an access door that was not in the original budget. The project took a few weeks longer than planned but John tried his best to get all of the outside services here in a timely manor. We were so happy with his work that we hired him to replace and install a new deck"

"Very well. Wendy and Jo are very responsive to inquiries and eager to do an excellent job. They did exactly what they said they would do and faster than expected. I went to work in the morning and came back to my house with a new roof. The only evidence that they were there, other than the new roof, was the dumpster in the driveway. We had a small one story ranch style home and oversized garage roofed."

"I had used KBA in the past for a skylight leak, and had had a great experience so decided to give Bruce a call and see if he could help with the ice dam damage. I called him on a Friday evening and he was here bright and early Monday morning to assess what was was going on. I have home insurance and would be filing the claim, so Bruce brought his camera and took pictures of the inside and the outside. It was freezing and there was snow all around, but Bruce had his team up there and they got every picture that an adjustor would need. The ice dam was more complicated than expected so we thought it would be a good idea to have the adjustor come out and explain everything to him face to face so that in the end we didn't get penalized for something we were not allowed to do. Bruce took time from his schedule and came over when the adjustor was here and walked him through it all. Bruce made sure that the adjustor understood the repairs that needed to be done in order to resolve the situation. Bruce's #1 priority are his customers and he did not want to see me pay more than I had to for the "mother nature"event. The adjustor that came out ended up switching job so when I got the quote for my claim, it was no where close to what it should have been!! The case had been reassigned and the new adjustor was basing it on the online pictures and knew nothing of the detail that Bruce had gone over with the previous adjustor. Bruce, once again, took the time and called the new adjustor and explained everything to her over the phone and encouraged her to call him with any questions. She did call him/email and he was quick to respond every time; and in the end all I was left to pay was my deductible.
In the end, the job was completed and everything looks great! However, what is even more important is that through the whole process I new i could rely on Bruce to be there with any questions that i had. He was always a phone call away. The team that came to my house to do the repairs was respectful and polite. They always left the areas worked on clean and tidy as it had been. Bruce would always be there to do inspections along the way to make sure the work was being done as it should be.
As the years go on, I am sure there will be "issues" in the house; and I feel confident tackling them because I know I have a dependable contractor who will get the job done efficiently/perfectly, and in the process will not try and take advantage of me or the situation by any means."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Templeton, MA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
