"Jason is the BEST! I have had 2 different contractors over the last 2 years for a persistent roof leak impacting an area in the kitchen ceiling. One of those contractors came 3 times and did some caulking in the area. This lasted 1 year and as you might guess, the heavy 2 days of rain during the 2nd week in April left me with the same leaks in the same areas. Sheward Contractors was one of the referrals that I received, but I was skeptical as to whether he would be able to truly fix my issue after 2 years of dealing with this leak. Immediately upon meeting Jason, I began to feel more confident in a resolution. He listened patiently while I recounted the history of my issues, he evaluated the roof area and came back with pictures and recommendations. The pictures showed the caulking had cracked and also he felt a hole deep behind the shingles in that area where water could seep in with heavy rains and pooling of water. He also showed me pictures of a clogged dryer venting system right beside the problem area that may or may not have contributed to the issue. None of the other contractors even informed me that my dryer vented to the roof. I was surprised about this information but grateful for Jason and his thoroughness in explaining it all to me. Jason responded to my emergency situation and gave priority to fixing my roof by removing shingles, installing new flashing, replacing shingles and also replacing the dryer vent with a better dryer venting system after cleaning out around the area opening. Jason, thank you so much for your excellent service to your customers, your expertise in your chosen profession, your kindness and your overall responsiveness to what are usually stressful circumstances for your customers. I also know by your ethical communications and manner that you plan to stand by your solution, such that even if something did not work as planned, I know that I can count on you to assist with a resolution. Thank you for standing out from the masses."

"Other companies would not call me back because I was not replacing the entire roof. They explained why one side of the bump out had rotted. I was happy with the price quoted for replacing the shingles with a metal that matched the color copper penny roof on out barn. This was a small job but they treated us with respect. Very happy with the result."

"They were excellent. They arrived early in the morning, tore off the old roof, made repairs to some of the boards on the roof and did excellent prep for the shingles. They had five or six men working, who were all considerate, and a couple of them continued to clean up between different stages of the job. The owner of the company was there the whole day and provided oversite and was very approachable for my questions. They installed a third static vent in my roof free of charge, and I noticed that my second floor seemed cooler that night. They straightened my gutters and did top quality work from start to finish. They also finished the job in one work day and cleaned up very thoroughly. I am completely satisfied and give my highest recommendation for Rodeffer Roofing."

"They completed a complete roof teardown and putting new shingles on in a single day.  Over the weekend more high velocity wind hit the area and they came out the next day to check and make sure everything stayed in place.  They did everything without requiring any money upfront to start or complete the work.  R&R Roofing is a true roofing company that not only does the work, they did it correctly without cutting corners to meet the insurance quote.  They also kept me informed with everything that was going on.  Truly a professional company and a great company to work with."

"Craig arrived on time and got to work quickly. Job was done professionally and he left no trace. He had to work around the installation of sod and landscaping and was happy to do so. My favorite part was he called during the first heavy rain to ask how the new gutters were performing!"

"The technician was on time and professional. He climbed up on the roof and examined it. He reported that there was no damages, but a couple of shingles needed repair. He repaired the loose shingles for no charge This service gave me great confidence in the firm. I would use them in the future."

"We had already suffered through two other estimates from window salesmen before I got in touch with Todd; one seemed suspiciously inexpensive and the other seemed much too expensive. I learned more about window construction/sales/installation from talking to Todd for 10 minutes on the phone than I had sitting with the other two men for three hours. When he came out to show us a sample and give us an estimate, we knew he was the right choice—knowledgeable, friendly, and reasonably priced. I called him back out a few days later to measure the windows and draw up a contract, and we paid half of the total as a deposit. Our windows were ready about six weeks later and we made an appointment for installation; Todd said it wouldn't take more than a day to complete the job. Two installers arrived late on the day of installation, apparently due to a delay beyond their control at the pick-up location. They were annoyed to find that I hadn't removed the blinds, not at me but at Todd for not mentioning that I should have. The installers, Bill and Robby, were friendly and thorough but progress was slow, maybe a little slower than it needed to be. Todd visited the site, spoke to me and to them, and went on his way. The installers kicked off early the first day with less than half of the work done. My husband came home from work to find that, not only were there uninsulated gaps around the windows, seven of our new windows were leaning up against a tree on the side of our house awaiting installation. He called Todd, who came over to explain what was acceptable (the small gaps) and what was not (the windows-on-the-tree situation). It became clear to us then that Bill and Robby were not Todd's employees but subcontractors, which may explain why they called him "that guy" in conversation. Installation was completed on the second day, even though the weather was rainy and much worse than the previous day. The house stunk due to the silicone caulk, especially since we couldn't open the windows because of the rain, but the windows looked GREAT. Bill and Robby did an excellent job caulking and capping the windows, and we were extremely happy with the product itself. Todd came by the next business day to collect the balance due and his yard sign, plus apologize again for the things that were less than ideal. Time will tell if there is a marked improvement in temperature transfer (or lack thereof) and noise control but so far we are impressed. The windows look great, feel great, and come with a solid warranty. Todd was easy to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. As a matter of fact, I recommended him to my sister-in-law (who needs a patio door) and plan to use him to replace our storm doors."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Tipton, IN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
