"The guys from Radon Environmental arrived on time, installed the equipment and cleaned up after themselves very efficiently. The whole process was very professional and I would use them again/recommend to others."

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"I was in the process of selling and decided to have a home inspection so there would be no surprise fixes when we got a buyer. Chris was timely and reasonably priced. He was very thorough, explaining things to me as we went along. He spent a good three hours in my small 1200 sqft house. He went into the crawl, the attic and the roof. He pointed out several things we had missed (like a few non grounded outlets) to major issues (a water leak in crawl space). He even caught an improperly connected dryer vent that I had just paid for. When the seller's inspection came in, it was very favorable and had NO surprise issues. "

"SWAT installed a radon mitigation system in our house as we are selling it and the buyers requested this after inspection. I had trouble getting in touch with other companies to provide the service and the other bids I had were much higher. SWAT answered their phone right away, gave me a quote on the phone (which was the exact amount I was charged) and scheduled to come out at my earliest convenience. The technician called when he was about half an hour away to let me know he would be there soon. He was courteous the whole time he was there. The only downside was that the installation took a long time, but that seems to be because of the dirt under our foundation that was difficult to dig through. They spent all day working on installing the system at no extra charge for the added hours. Also, I should note the price we paid included installation of the system and laying plastic sheeting over about 200 square feet of dirt crawl space. In my quote they said they would beat any competitors quote and with the great service we received, I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing to put in a radon mitigation system. <br />"

"Lance and his wife did a tremendous job of fixing our radon problem. They were very well versed on what needed to be done. They were extremely deligent in getting their work done in a timely and safe manner. They stayed at my residence until they were sure that everything was done and done right. I would highly recommend them for anyone that needs a radon problem fixed."

"Rob did a great job. He arrived 10 minutes early which was when I got there to make sure he didn't have to wait on me. I already had a pretty good idea that there wasn't anything major he would find but he did point out a number of smaller issues. He was very informative and personable. The only issue we did have was that he wasn't sure how to get the emergency heat on to test it. I can't really fault him for this with the vast number/types of thermostats on the market. The one in this home was all digital and linked to their cell service.... Yeah I'm gonna need a manual. All in all I was very pleased!"

"Really well. Good communication and punctuality; I live out in the sticks, and most services are late getting here. Ron was 5 min early by my watch, and to me, that's on time. <br /> As a scientist by trade, I could tell that Ron has scientist tendencies: very precise and proper. He answered all of my questions and was friendly about it to boot. <br /> My relocation company hired him as I'm trying to sell my place, so that's a vote from those folks. I actually called him this week to get advice on inspection items, just as a second opinion. <br /> Top shelf individual, also a military vet and reservist. He is first on my list for any inspections if I move back in Indiana; I'm pretty sure nothing would get past him. <br /> <br />"

"The recent cold spell in our area burst a pipe in my <br /> basement leading to some significant water accumulation in my newly finished <br /> “man-cave” and game room. I had some <br /> standing water and the carpeting and drywall base were totally saturated. <br /> On the recommendation of a former student I called ERS, <br /> locally-owned and operated here in Bloomington, IN. Part of my motivation in writing this <br /> testimonial is that over the past 27 years of living in Bloomington I have had <br /> a decidedly negative experience with <br /> “restoration” firms. In fact, I have had <br /> two prior instances of water damage and both of those experiences were <br /> miserable with the firms we used. <br /> I am delighted to report that ERS was magnificent in <br /> their response and service. They responded early on a weekend morning and brought a veritable battalion of equipment to dry me out. And in the medical spirit of “no treatment without diagnosis” they did not just throw guys and equipment at the problem. Rather, they first used these cool moisture readers to determine the full scope and <br /> nature of the problem. Moreover, even a <br /> full day later when my casual walk-around and hand test indicated that I was <br /> fully dry their moisture readers said otherwise. They thus kept the dryers there 2 days longer <br /> to be sure the moisture embedded in the walls (and ultimately the genesis of <br /> mold) was fully removed. <br /> So count me as a raving fan of ERS. Professional, respectful of your property, and <br /> uniquely experienced and equipped to get beyond the superficial and really dry <br /> you out. I give them my highest recommendation. <br /> I would <br /> further note that I also used ERS a year ago to get the smoke smell out of my <br /> kitchen after I left a pan of gravy on for over 4 hours. They brought in an ozone machine and after a <br /> day of operation it was amazing how that removed the smell. I am a Professor at Indiana University and I <br /> happen to know that IU has used these guys and I see why – they are the best ! <br /> <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Tunnelton, IN

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
