"Issue #1: Started at first meeting in October 2014. Salesperson did NOT and consistently DID NOT HEAR what i was describing to him. Even with a wood sample.  He kept going on and on and the quality of their work. So, to save $10,000 in buying new cabinets we decided upon this option.
Issue #2: Another person came out to finalize the measurements. Apparently Salesperson #1 did not LISTEN to what we wanted with replacing the drawers. They were just going to reface them. This would have left the drawers looking and working unbalanced and uneven and interiors being worn and ugly compared to the rest of the  "new stuff".  Salesperson #2 said it would be $450 extra to replace all the drawers with new ones. Wow. Ok. I needed them to work and look good. My old drawers have become crooked - since they were installed in 1988. I don't know WHY Salesperson #1 didn't suggest that at the initial meeting.
Issue #3: We were to receive samples of the wood we chose and the color we chose. At the initial meeting, we told Salesperson #1 that we wanted a stain with grain showing, not a flat paint! We said this at least 3 times. What do we get as a sample????? Yes, a FLAT painted piece of wood with no grain showing. So, it takes another 2 1/2  weeks to get another sample.
Issue #4: Approved sample. It is now the end of November! They said they wouldn't be able to come install until January! Yes, it took 3 MONTHS for this process start to finish. I could have received NEW cabinets in 6 weeks.
Issue #5: Installation time. They had to build a new cabinet for over the refrigerator. It was clearly CROOKED! The bottom of the cabinet was 1 inch wider by the time you got to the top of the cabinet! AND where  the inside hinges were there clearly was a mistake and was all GNARLED up on the inside! HOW could a "craftsmen" leave such an obvious mess of a creation and not expect us to NOTICE??!?!? Seriously?!  It looked like something a high school shop student did.  We told them to replace the whole thing
Issue #6: They did not tell us during the initial visit that the build-ups of the cabinets to reach the ceilings were just FRAMES! The interior and the back (wall exposed) were not finished. Now the inside of the top shelf of my cabinets are the ugly burnt orange color of the previous paint job. I could have painted that if i had known it would be showing!!!!!!!
Issue #7: Upon final inspection 3 of the drawers were WAY off color to the rest of the cabinets. It looked like they were missing a coat of stain!!!! So, they ordered and replaced them  2 weeks later.
Issue #8: We were provided a can of paint to paint the inside edges of the inside of the frames of the cabinets to match the outside.. really? I have to actually do work  on the cabinets i paid  $15,000 for ????!!
The craftsmanship was definately was under par for what they told us. It seemed like they just wanted to get in and out without really taking a step back and looking at the work. Things still are uneven, but can't do anything b/c the laminate is glued down.  Salesperson didn't even follow up the week the workers were here to check how things were going. Once he received the check, he didn't care.
If I had to make the decision over again, i DEFINITELY would have gone with NEW cabinets. I could have received them in 6 weeks, instead of a total of 3 1/2 months, consistent color, better workmanship and a lot less headaches.

"The service went well. I have no complaints and they did a very nice job. The only thing about refacing is that when you bump things into the cabinets they will scratch. They have held up pretty well over the years, however. The technician was very professional and efficient. I do not remember having any scheduling issues."

"Shlomo and his team did a fantastic job. The moment Shlomo entered our house we knew we had hired a reliable professional. He designed a cabinet that offered more space than those of others suppliers and make use of all space available. He had to remove the marble countertop to install the cabinets and reinstalled thereafter. The cabinets are of high quality and blend in perfectly with the rest of our kitchen. I highly recommend him. And the price was competitive too."

"I came across this company by accident.  I was out looking at granite and stumbled across a wholesaler while looking for another company.  I found a few slabs that I loved.  When I spoke to someone who worked there, they told me they were a wholesaler and deal with the fabricators.  The woman gave me the name and number of this company and said they did amazing work.
As soon as I got home, I emailed.  Received a response back from Trevor.  Rather than go through emails, I called and spoke to Mark, the owner.  I told him what I was looking to do and which slabs I liked.  After discussion, I selected a stone and Mark came out to take measurements.  He said they worked Saturdays so I would not need to take a day off of work.
Mark and crew showed up right on time and immediately got to work.  The kitchen had ugly formica throughout, including a wine rack/bar cabinet that was custom built.  That piece looked like it would be a bear to remove/replace the formica but they managed to do it.  The work was done in less than two hours and the granite looks amazing!
I also wanted to do a tile backsplash and they put me in touch with someone who does it for a reasonable price.
I am incredibly happy with the work that was done and will be using this company again when I am ready to renovate my bathrooms.
Thanks Mark and crew!!

"Duane showed us all the options, helped us come up with the best design, then came to our house and measured. He patiently made changes as we requested them until finally we were ready to order. The cabinets were delivered on time by 2 men who first went through a checklist to ensure the order was complete. They placed the many boxes where we asked them to. They were polite and respectful of our house. We love our new cabinets and countertop!"

"Bill Schoenbauer himself came to our house traveling over 100 miles! He came twice so I am very impressed. Bill repaired our leather sofa (looks perfect!) our king poster bed and many other items, including chairs, cabinets, furniture, etc. I was so impressed by Bill and his professionalism. He does immaculate work and double and triple checks everything. He made sure the job was done right. Normally I look over the shoulder of repair companies, however Bill immediately made me feel comfortable and I could tell he is an expert in his field. I would highly recommend him to anyone!"

"I had an old wooden medicine cabinet that had been in my family for probably over 50 years. It needed some TLC and the broken mirror replaced. A&Jads installed a new mirror, cleaned the wood, filled with putty where needed, added sealer and a finish, where needed, and touched up the color where needed. He was very courteous and took pride in his work.

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Valley Lee, MD

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
