"Started with an on-time estimate in mid-July.  Sales rep. Raymond Lyon is very professional and knowledgeable about the many details of kitchen cabinet refacing.  He listened to our needs and proposed solutions that we had not thought of, that worked better. <br /> Cost estimate was provide within a few days.  After obtaining two other quotations, we selected Nu-Life due to their full understanding of the project and its many unique details.  Their price was the highest and their materials were of the best quality (thicker, finish, fit). <br /> Their competitors were unsure of several unique details, however Nu-Life had a solution for every detail.  Their experience with projects of this type were the advantage vs. their competitors, and the reason why we hired Nu-Life. <br /> Installation began on the promised date and was finished on time.  A door that they manufactured needed a better mounting detail and they manufactured a new door and return in two weeks to install the cabinet door with a perfect fit.  No extra charges. <br /> The new cabinet doors are of superior quality for fit, finish and workmanship, true cabinet doors.  The refacing materials are 0.25 inches thick and are twice the thickness of their competitors.  Their two installers were knowledgeable, very professional and polite.  They worked quickly and accurately while keeping the dust to a minimum. <br /> Without any reservations I would highly recommend Nu-Life Cabinets to any homeowner that is seriously considering cabinet refacing vs. a new kitchen.  We priced a new kitchen and it was over double the cost of refacing with Nu-Life.  They worked to make every detail perfect to our complete satisfaction.  I would hire them again. <br />"

"Signed contract in July.  Started work in mid September on exact date promised.  Completed all work in four days, beating the estimated schedule of five days.  Careful considerate and polite workers.  Good dust control inside our home.  Very good workmanship and quality materials throughout.  Creative problem solvers with several difficult existing kitchen cabinet details.  Quality of new cabinet door is perfect.  Exact fit on every new cabinet door.  Refacing material is twice the thickness of their competitors at 0.25 inch thick.  Volunteered to remake one cabinet door when installer changed the refacing detail to a simpler and much improved detail.  Revised door arrived withing two weeks and was installed.. Perfect solution to a very odd detail.  Overall grade of "A" for quality.  Not the low bid, however the best value considering the thickness of refacing materials and the perfect quality cabinet doors.  I would hire them again. <br />"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in West Bend, IA

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
