"We signed with Cal-Vintage to replace our roof with stone-coated steel back in Sept 2016. The first time we were rescheduled, they called & let us know. Then our start date came, and no one showed. We called & they let us know they had rescheduled us. Again, the date came, and no one showed. Again, no communication what so ever. A week later they called to check in on us. Not happy. It has been a rainy winter and after being rescheduled multiple times, we all agreed to reschedule in April. One thing we stressed was when pushing out even further, that we didn't want to be then put in the back of the line. Despite having made that clear to Brent, we got a call (at least they called), to let us know we were delayed and there were jobs ahead of us. We have emailed them, and still, no reply. So either they are 6 months behind in work, or they really don't want our business. I'm baffled. Either way, our experience with commutation has been pretty poor."

"I can't say enough good things about Harlan Quality Roofing. Everyone, from James the owner to the roofing crews, to the office staff, were very professional. The roofers were very punctual and very thorough in picking up debris each day."

"Jeff and his team knew what they were doing. They repaired a very problematic leak and replaced broken tiles on the roof of our 2-story house. They also proposed a unique solution to cap off some decorative external wood beams on the front of the house that were collecting water and exhibiting signs of wood rot (something we didn't even realize was happening). The ceramic tiles on our house were hard to locate, but he was able to find the correct ones, and we have some spare ones left over. It's been 6 years since the repair and we've had no issues."

"Local Professionals come through: I had a water flow problem on the front center part of my roof that resulted in some of the sheathing under the overhang to dry rot. I also had a rain gutter with damage caused by a leaning tree. I called Roofmasters for a free quote. Johnathon explained the process and answered all my questions. Aaron arrived on-time for the quote on 8/27/2018. He explained what caused the dry rot and answered my questions regarding concerns I had about other areas of my roof. He put my mind at rest – telling me that my roof appeared to be in good shape except for the area that brought him there that day. I received the written quote on 8/31/2018 for the roof and gutter repairs and scheduled the work to be done on 9/14/2018. They called 30 minutes before arrival as promised. They were professional, courteous, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves well. They even replaced a couple cracked tiles at no additional charge. They are a local company (Suisun City, CA) that obviously still takes pride in their work. This seems to be a trait that is in short supply these days. I’ll definitely call them again the next time I need help with my roof."

"Byers was amazing in every way. The buying process of was easy, the installation was quick & clean, and my roof and gutters look amazing. I got five quotes for roofing, three quotes for covered gutters and one of the roofing companies offered to "throw in" open gutters with my roofing purchase. I had not purchased roofing or gutters before, so I didn't know what I didn't know. I knew that I wanted a roof with a long warranty and gutters that were covered. I assumed that if you just purchased great shingles, you'd have a great roof. What I quickly learned is that not all roofs or roofing contractors are the same and most roofers also offer gutters. We chose Owens Corning shingles because we liked how they looked and they were a "cool roof", plus I wanted the longest warranty offered. I learned that I needed a Platinum Contractor to get the extended warranty. I also wanted covered gutters that I would never have to clean. All the screened gutter covers required cleaning for the warranty to be in effect, so I had to purchase an enclosed gutter system. Byers was the last company that we received a quote from because when they left my husband and I knew that Byers were the right contractors for us. The difference of their professionalism from the outset was noticeable. Our "lead" roofing contractor prior meeting Byers was a Preferred Contractor with Owens Corning, but not a Platinum Contractor, so they couldn't offer the warranty that Byers could offer. Additionally, they offered a mesh covered gutter system that would require cleaning. It was better than an open gutter, but I didn't want to settle. The "LeafGuard" gutter that Byers offered was an enclosed system and guaranteed that the gutters wouldn't clog and that we didn't need to clean them, ever! The gutters came in several colors. I thought we would pick one of those fancy colors, but we didn't. We ended up just getting white and I'm glad that we did. They look great, nice and clean. While they were installing the roof, we started talking about adding light into the house. We ended up getting two Solatubes one for the kitchen and another for the dining room. Natural light has such a different feel than a light bulb. They only took a few hours to install. It has made a world of difference. I would happily refer them to anyone who is looking for quality workmanship and long lasting quality roof, gutters or skylights."

"The crew was efficient, respectful and thorough. They think about the customer first. They are checking in every day of the project to ask about how everything went and about questions or concerns. They did an AMAZING job replacing the shingles and sheeting on my roof. Spectacular experience. The owner, Jack, comes by and inspects his employees work as well introducing himself and making sure it was satisfactory. I see why this company has so many great reviews. If I could give 10 stars I would."

"My real test for service providers is how they handle the situation when things go wrong. Our lightweight tile roof was installed 18 years ago just before we purchased our house. It was roofed with an unusual technique, particular to a roofer who is no longer in business. We had a considerable leak near the fireplace. We interviewed several other roofers who either wouldn’t try or wouldn’t guarantee various possible fixes that ranged from a few hundred dollars to a $2500. Most said the only solution was a whole new roof.  <p>Since economics are a big consideration for us at this time, I was thrilled that David was willing to try his hand at it. Unfortunately, he was unable to fix it. I did not hold this against him, as the roofing method was unorthodox. My husband and I were extremely impressed with his integrity in not accepting our payment since he was unable to improve or remedy the situation. <br></p> <p>For this reason, I give D&D an A rating, even though the repair attempt didn’t work. In the big picture, David’s willingness to try without success and the refusal of others to work on the roof were closed doors that helped me figure out which ones to open next. I had heard that the original roofer had a family business, and I wondered if any of his relatives carried it on. Turns out his son did and his crew still uses the signature family method. We finally got our roof fixed, and D&D was an important part in this complex puzzle to get to customer satisfaction. We thank David for being open-minded and such an honest man. He would be our first recommendation for any kind of standard roofing work.<br></p> <br>"

"<br /> I bought the $9999 kitchen remodel that Powers Interior Construction offered through Angie's List.  When I met with Joe, I explained that what I wanted and needed was a much, much larger remodeling project and that  I wanted to roll the Angie's List deal into that.  I went with PIC because he was prompt and responsive and responsible from the very beginning, and that seemed to be reflected in his other Angie's List reviews.  <br /> What a Great Choice. <br /> Throughout the huge, four-month-plus project, Joe was awesome.  His work was top notch.  He did every bit of it himself, and it shows.  He kept me in the information loop every step of the way.  He was respectful of my space and my family.  He was flexible and helpful as changes and issues emerged.  Joe Powers is a rare and special contractor, and I would not hesitate to use him again or recommend him to others."

"My neighbors were repainting their houses and the painters informed them of dry on their roof overhang. Since our houses are similar and about the same age, my neighbor passed along the information to me. I called Atlantis roofing and they came out the next day inspected the roof and said I had four areas that needed repair and received an estimate of $1200. The work was scheduled for the Friday of the same week and was completed that same day. I had to leave before they were finished but they offfered to e-mail me pictures of the completed work if I wished. When I returned I noticed an area of warped overhang that I thought they did not repair. I called them immediately and they returned the same day. It turned out that we had looked at this area during the estimate and it was decided it did not need to be repaired, but they offered to stay and repair it. By then it was 4:30 and it was agreed to do the work the next workday. Despite the fact that it was my misunderstanding of which areas would be repaired, they repaired the warped area and would not accept payment. I think their commitment to customer satisfaction is extremely rare in today's marketplace and deserves special recognition. <br />"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Wilton, CA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
