"Twenty years ago Fence & Deck Connection installed a long fence (about 1,000 feet) around my backyard. Twenty years later five of the hundred or so vertical posts had rotted and were sagging, and I was worried they wouldn't last another winter. When I called Fence & Deck Connection to repair the fence, I didn't even remember that they provided a lifetime warranty on it. But of their own accord they reminded me of that fact and came out and did the needed repairs. It is very rare that I have ever used a product’s warranty and never have I used one twenty years after I made a purchase. Providing that warranty and then honoring it the way they did: That was amazing service!"

"This was probably one of the best experiences we’ve had with a company Completing a big project. They were communicative, professional, and hard-working. Even working during a snowstorm! Every step of the way was a positive experience and the final result was beautiful. I would recommend the deck and fence Company to anyo"

"<p>My experience with this company was excellent.  We decided to take all their post-audit recommendations, which included installing blown fiberglass insulation into both of our attics (one over our garage and one over our upstairs bedrooms), creating a dam around the hvac upstairs and a path to the unit, installing baffles along vented soffits to maintain passive attic ventilation, installing an insulated attic tent at one of our attic access pull down stairs, air sealing at top plates on interior walls from attic side and around ceiling mounted devices (recessed lights, ceiling fans) from the attic side, and installing mat covers over recessed lights and foam sealing them to the attic floor. As an additional benefit, the mat covers will keep those pesky stink bugs from getting into the house via the attic -awesome!  </p> <p>Mike and his crew also air sealed bypasses at the vertical attic knee wall, air sealed around the exterior door in our family room and solved a huge problem for us, by air sealing the exterior wall by our cooktop vent. In addition, they replaced all of the flex duct from our upstairs hvac to each bedroom and bathroom (which unbeknownst to us was deteriorating and had actually been recalled) with new insulated flex duct.  They also extended the venting of two bathroom fans to the outside at a roof mounted vent hood, which they installed. All of that work was done in just one day and it resulted in a significant improvement in energy loss, as evidenced by the post installation test out results. When they left my house, the place was spotless.</p> <p><strong>This is a company you can trust.</strong>  They are personable, professional, efficient and go the extra mile to make sure everything is done correctly.  <strong>Here's the kicker...they also complete and submit all of the paperwork you need to obtain a rebate from BG&E under their Home Performance with Energy Star program, which provide rebates up to $3800. </strong> In our case, we will receive a substantial rebate.  Based on the calculations we received as part of the energy audit, we will recoup our portion of the bill (after the rebate) in a few years which is a great deal, since we plan to stay in this house for many years to come.<br /> <br /></p> <br />"

"This is the third time I used this company. I was a little skeptical since I have only had them do fence work in the past. But my dealings with their salesman Doug Frailey has always been straight forward and they delivered what was promised. On the day they came to install, the pacers that were delivered were not what I wanted, wrong color but I think it was due to a miscommunication. I spoke to Doug and his office manager and it was immediately rectified. The crew that laid the tile were precise and professional. The design was complicated, but they did a great job. I am really happy either work that was done. They cleaned up and I have no complaints, I will use them again."

"We were very pleased with the the work Bill and his son Tom did for us.  Bill responded to our original call in a very timely manner.  He came out and did all the measurements and gave us some wonderful suggestions for our project.  He stained and finished the rails and then came out with his son and installed the entire project in  half a day.  They protected our rugs and stairs with tarps and cleaned up after the job was done.  We could not be happier with their work <br />"

"They did a real fine job of installing it, it looks really good. It's well anchored into the ground and real stable looking. It came painted and they touched it up. I give them a really high rating. The fact that they worked with us and explained what was going on. They were very open about everything they were doing. They even talked about other types of material I could have used other then the cast iron. They were quick to call back and answer questions. They even followed up to make sure it was installed correctly. They were very professional. I have already recommended them to my friends."

"First, I want to say that our major issue with JC Smith is not the quality of the work or the professionalism, but rather the questionable way they do some of their pricing and estimates. Shortly after July 4, we had a pipe burst in our basement which meant that half the drywall on one wall and all the carpeting in our basement needed to be replaced. Having worked with them previously, my husband contacted JC Smith for an estimate. The owner, John, came out himself to do the estimate. He was polite and courteous. He told my husband that they frequently do water damage repair so are familiar with the requirements for insurance reimbursement and that they would take care of and handle everything… even arranging to have our pool table moved when necessary. He assured us that the estimate would include repairing the basement to the same quality it had been prior to the damage. After about 3 weeks (early August) we got the estimate, which wasn’t a big deal because we weren’t in a huge rush. Bill came out to give us the estimate and, just like John, he was very polite and professional. As we were going over the estimate, we inquired about the allowances for padding and carpeting. Bill told us we had an allowance of $3.00 per sq. ft. for carpeting and that the estimate included basic padding. We told him the estimate would have to be corrected because we had upgraded padding and expected the replacement padding to also be upgraded. We wanted to submit the revised estimate to our insurance company. Since he was already out there going over the estimate with us, Bill was hesitant to have to start over and make another trip out, knowing it would take more time, so he told us “If you can keep your carpet selection to $2.70 per sq. ft. then I will make the padding work and ensure you get the padding you want.” We reluctantly (and in hindsight, erroneously) agreed. We did not balk too much at some of the charges since the cost was being covered by our insurance company, especially the almost $3200 charge to paint the basement (one large room) which was a higher charge than what we had paid to have our ENTIRE home (more than double the square footage) painted a couple years prior. Noticing that there were charges for content manipulation and debris haul away, we asked about that and Bill explained that JC Smith would tear up the existing carpeting and move the furniture around to do so and it was also for carpet installation. We asked if that could be done first so we could take care of some pet stains on the concrete floor. He indicated this would not be a problem. So, we gave him a hefty deposit, signed the papers, he said they were scheduling about 3-4 weeks out and he would schedule us as soon as we got our carpet choice to him, and then he left. We went to Home Depot and selected out carpet, meeting the budget he asked us to and sent the sample specs to JC Smith. We figured we were also saving money because Home Depot does free installation. However, fast forward to end of September/early October (almost two months later) and we still had not been contacted. In the meantime, having run out of the ability to wait, we ripped up the old carpeting and disposed of it ourselves so we could treat the stains as necessary. We simply could not wait any longer for JC Smith as 3-4 weeks had turned into two months and we had no idea when work would begin. Work finally began on Friday, October 22 with the carpet installed on Thursday, October 28. Tim, the Project Manager was terrific. Very professional, polite, and did great work. When a MAJOR snafu occurred where the wrong carpet had been ordered, he was quick to try to resolve it. As a compromise, we agreed to keep the wrong carpet if they would replace the carpet in a small room off the basement which now would not match. Everyone was happy. However, nearly a month later, the carpet error still has not been fixed and we are waiting for that to happen. Much of that is due to a billing dispute that we are working to resolve and which I will explain below. As previously mentioned, we were asked to keep our carpet selection at $2.70 rather than $3.00 per square foot to make the padding work. However, as Home Depot does, because the carpet was ordered under my husband’s name, we were also sent a copy of the carpet invoice. JC Smith charged us over $1400 more for carpet/padding than Home Depot charged them. Of course we realize that JC Smith is a business and profits need to be made so we expected mark-ups. What we did not expect was such a large mark-up IN ADDITION to the 17.5% margin they tacked onto the overall bill total. In addition, JC Smith charged us for content manipulation nd debris haul away, which they did not do. When we inquired about it, we were told “Well, the work was performed by one of our subcontractors acting on behalf of JC Smith (i.e. Home Depot).” It made no difference to them that Home Depot did not charge THEM for these actions nor the fact that we had to rip the carper up ourselves. They would not budge on the almost $500 in charges for work that they did not actually do. By their explanation, they could have charged us additional fees to carry the carpet in because, well SOMEONE did it. Didn’t matter if they were charged. When we tried to dispute the cost of the carpet issue with JC Smith, at first, we were rather rudely told “Well actually, your flooring cost $3.64 per square foot so we actually GAVE you an allowance.” The gentleman tried to act as if JC Smith did us a favor, when actually, they just padded their pockets more by us choosing a cheaper carpeting, at their direction. Nevermind the fact that the estimate included an allowance for $3.00 per square foot for carpet alone IN ADDITION to padding. All said, JC Smith charged us $4907 for carpeting/flooring (considering flooring charges, charges for “content manipulation”, charges for “debris haul away” and a 17.5% markup) although they were actually only charged $2220 by Home Depot who actually did the installation…. And didn’t charge JC Smith a dime to move the furniture around. I guess, at the end of the day, the joke is on us for not insisting on a revised estimate. We have tried to come to an agreement with them on removing some of the charges based on us being given false information and also for being charged for work we ultimately had to do ourselves, but the customer service rep has been unwilling to even acknowledge that the billing practices are shady. We have been forced to contact an attorney to discuss our options. At the end of the day, the DID do good work. I would just recommend that you ask any and ALL questions up front and make sure you fully understand their rather complicated (by design I assume) estimate and pricing document. Otherwise, you’ll be charged far more than you probably should be."

"<p>In the end, the repairs looked very good.  The process itself was a nightmare.  The contract was signed in early May, with the understanding that the work would be finished in 3-5 weeks.  There was a substantial delay in starting the work.  Once the work was started, it was impossible to tell when the workmen would be there from day to day.  On one occasion, I specifically asked if they would be there on a Saturday.  I was told that they would be, so a family function was moved to another location.  When we returned home, nothing had been done.  The workmen showed up the next morning at 8:00 a.m. ( a Sunday ) with jackhammers while I had a houseful of guests.  On this occasion, I did send them away, in consideration of my neighbors and guests.</p> <p>The cement truck left deep ruts in my back yard (and it could have been done from the driveway).  Two dumpsters full of cement were left in my driveway until I called and asked why they had not been removed.  In the meantime, they caused damage to the driveway.  I was reimbursed for the damage to the yard and driveway, but only after pointing it out to the company and complaining.  I guess they thought I wouldn't notice.  It took the remainder of the summer for new grass to be established in the yard.</p> <p>The whole process was extremely frustrating, and it was not completed until Mid-July.   I made phone calls practically every week  to prod the process along or find out what the schedule was, and the schedule was rarely kept.   I would not use this company again and I would not recommend them to a friend.</p>"
