Customers say: Quick response

"The nicest and hardest working construction crew and company Iâ ve ever dealt with. Extremely excellent customer service. Employees showed up several minutes earlier than expected every morning. The large crew always work together along with the boss doing a lot of grunt work himself. They laughed and really seem to enjoy doing their job together as a team. We could not be happier with the driveway that we have waited for for 10 years."

"Reviews were only mediocre about Colonial, but thought I'd give them a try. Wish I hadn't... They came out and sprayed for weed control, 6700 sq. ft. of lawn and did it all in less than 10 minutes, including dragging hose out and putting away. 2 weeks later only about 20% of weeds were wilting. Had to have them come back out for a 2nd application, of which they charged me for, shouldn't have and didn't refund my payment. They also sprayed for Crabgrass control on a separate occasion and again 2 weeks later, only about 20% of Crabgrass was wilting. Had to have them come back out and spray again. They weren't supposed to spray the Bent grass in the lawn and did it anyway, now dead spots all over my back lawn. Could not be more disappointed in my experience."

"Kent was hired by my next door neighbors(both in their mid-80's) to replace a concrete retaining wall last summer. Prior to the job starting, Kent met with me with someone he introduced as his contracted landscaper. Since our property was downhill from the neighbors, Kent wanted to use our property to remove and replace the wall. He told me the heavy equipment he would have to use would tear up our lawn but that the landscaper would re-sod it. Eight of our stone flower boxes had to be removed to do the job-Kent also was to have his landscaper restore them as well. The demolition and removal of the old wall by crew #1 went fairly well. One of our 12 foot arborvitae did not survive; not sure if that was from crew #1 or #2. Crew #2 was responsible for building the new block wall. The wall was constructed crooked and the locking flange on many blocks was 2 to 3 inches from proper position to lock the blocks together. A good portion of the wall had to be taken down and the blocks placed in proper position. The wall was still crooked, but at least it was locked in place. The wall is supposed to be back filled with gravel-I'm not sure it ever was. But I did see a large amount of garbage (water bottles, the plastic wrap tying all the blocks on the pallets, etc) that probably does not help with drainage. In order to get the blocks back to the job site, a forklift was used. This chipped and broke the front of my driveway where it meets with the street. I wanted to talk to Kent about the damage to my property, but he had planned a 2 week vacation to the Caribbean. The crew boss called Kent on his phone and Kent then informed me that he did NOT have a landscaper but he would still take care of the lawn replacement. I found out that his planned repair of the lawn was to have one of his workers spray grass seed on the previous lawn without any preparation of the site, which was now my old, established lawn that was tore up by the heavy machinery covered with several inches of clay soil. When I told him that was not acceptable, he responded that his contract for this job was not with me but was with my neighbors. I refused to accept the hydroseeding. He did cut the driveway edge straight for me and replaced it with asphalt. Crew #1 was polite, efficient, and left the site clean. Crew #2 was also polite but other than the crew boss, seemed to be inexperienced and made multiple mistakes. Two of my large impact sprinklers were left covered with a foot of soil, an 8 foot section of pipe and a riser and sprinkler was cut off and left laying next to the wall without capping the pipe off-it was later reattached by the neighbor's son. Our house water hose was used by them without permission and the hose was left out strewn across the job site. The neighbors driveway was asphalted with a gutter placed next to the wall. There was a gap between the gutter and the asphalt driveway so water has been draining underneath the gutter rather than into it. So now the asphalt is all collapsing and will soon make the driveway unusable. Now there will need to be additional construction to repair that issue along the approximately 100 foot driveway. Sorry I'm not savvy enough with my phone to be able to attach any of my photos to this review. The neighbor's have been trying to resolve the issues with Kent but to no avail-he has taken payment ($55,000.00!) from them so he is done. And of course he is done with me as well. Never again will I allow anyone to 'use' and destroy my property to make a profit without a separate contract of my own. I would not recommend this business to anyone, ever."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Yakima, WA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
