"Keith Roofing was excellent. Hugh called us back within an hour of our first call, and came out to check our roof within a week. He gave us a free quote, a full scope description, and pictures of issue areas. After we signed the contract, the Keith team came out the next week to complete the work. So in total, we had everything fixed within 10 days of our first call. Hugh also gave us pictures of all the repairs, walking us through what he and his team accomplished. We'll absolutely work with them again for any roof issues we have."

"The roof was replaced in a day and the gutters the next. The crew was in and out and all the interactions we had were pleasant on professional. We have a sunsail and it required them to install some anchors by doing some custom work included in the cost of the new roof. Everything went mostly according to plan other than needing to shift schedule due to weather. I would recommend their services to anyone."

"We did a lot of research and wanted a roof for our single family home that would last and not have to be replaced after 20-30 years. We discovered the ECO-Star synthetic slate tiles which are made from recycled tires and could be recycled again after they need replacement in 50 - 100 years! This sustainability appealed to us. We’d rather pay double now the price of a shingle roof (1800 ft) and be done with it for good in our life time. The higher price is mostly due to the more extensive work involved. And we are very happy with Riba Construction’s work. The foreman H.B. did an incredible job, communicated well and answered all our questions. He really took his time to meticulously make sure everything was done properly. The company owners came multiple times ether to check in with us or to help with the work. It took a bit longer than anticipated but we’d rather have a job done well than rushed. An Eco Star inspector came out and validated that their product was installed to their specifications. And now we have a 50 year warranty on it. It was a pleasure having H.B. and his crew around. We can highly recommend Riba Construction."

"I asked Springfield Roofing to provide a rough order of magnitude cost for a special kind of flat roof to compare against a few quotes I already had. They knew I was not going to hire them, but what service to offer a quick square footage pricing estimate. It was amazing! Thank you!"

"After contacting six roofing contractors for replacing our roof, we met with Michael A from HCR who spent several hours explaining his company’ quality materials used, time line for replacement and financing available. We decided to choose NCR (Home Fix Custom Remodeling). The workmen arrived at 7:45am and finished the work by 4:30pm. This included removal of the old shingles, installing new quality underlayment, new shingles, chimney flashing, new roof edging and a thorough cleanup of the old roofing materials, and removal of old nails in the yard. This was a totally professional experience. Many of our neighbors have complimented us on how beautiful our roof is. We highly recommend HCR for your roofing needs. Ray J Greg M Hagerstown, Maryland"

"Do you have home projects and looking for a great company? We know of one called Power Home Remodeling! This company surprised us with the way the process works. When you talk about smooth, no worries, and no guess work, wondering what’s going on; Power stripped all of that away with professionalism throughout the process from the initial consultation through material delivery, project installation and financing were easy. We had a total of five projects that started in January and completed in April. Our first project was getting a new roof. The crew came and worked from 0730 and completed the job at 1430. They had a crew of about 6-9 guys working on the roof. They cleaned up the area as they found it. The second project was the attic. They put this solar eclipse covering in the attic that regulates heat. Instead of the attic being very hot in the summer it will keep the temperature moderate. We are very pleased with the work and look of the roof and attic. The third project were the gutters! Man, these gutters are much larger in diameter than the original ones. I do not worry about ice buildup. The fourth and fifth project was the Foyer entry door and Half-moon window. This crew came on April 8, 2019 around 0830 and completed the job at 1600 hrs. We are very pleased with each project that was done with professionalism. We are so, elated that POWER did the work and completed it in a timely manner that we reached out to them for another project putting new patio doors in with automated shade. We are looking forward to them completing this project as the others with professionalism, care and dedication. "Their work was excellent and timely. They took the time to explain the roofing process clearly to a complete novice. The same can be said for each time I hired Home Matters over the past few years and I will definitely hire them again in future."

"I will never use another contractor for a major renovation ever again! Chevy Chase Remodeling is the ONLY firm I’ll use! I had a tight timeline and a tight budget and Steve from Chevy Chase Remodeling made sure that our renovation went off without a hitch, delivering on time and within budget. When we ran into snags, Steve found affordable, quality solutions. I used to believe that I could hire specialized handymen to do different jobs and come out cheaper than hiring a contractor, but Steve and Chevy Chase Remodeling were THE SAME price as multiple handymen, but I didn’t have to worry with the logistics or find solutions to problems. I was able to concentrate on my move while Steve made sure my new home was ready for us on day one!"

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Chevy Chase, MD

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
