"The roof was replaced in a day and the gutters the next. The crew was in and out and all the interactions we had were pleasant on professional. We have a sunsail and it required them to install some anchors by doing some custom work included in the cost of the new roof. Everything went mostly according to plan other than needing to shift schedule due to weather. I would recommend their services to anyone."

"I was looking for honest service which has considerable expertise to fix a damaged area by squirrel on the trim of the roof of my townhouse. I had invited a few estimates and eventually decided to have "RIBA Construction" do the job. They provided professional services at a fair price and good quality. They worked efficiently and were very responsive. Mr. HB, a project manager, is a real gentleman. He explained and documented my project clearly and step by step including how the repair would be performed. Their crews were indeed very experienced specialists. The work was solidly done. I feel that it's my good luck to have found this service company. It's a 5-stars service. I will definitely come back to them if I'll need any roofing or exterior repair in the future. Good luck to the company!"

"Ron came out to assess the condition of my roof. He didn’t try to sell me a new roof or even some pricey repairs. He climbed up and removed a branch that was growing under some shingles at the edge, checked for damage, then looked in the attic (and sent me photos and video) and in a room where I was worried about a possible leak — and he didn’t charge me for anything. He gave me a reasonable ballpark estimate for a new roof, but without any pressure to replace it now. I plan to call him for that in a few years."

"Do you have home projects and looking for a great company? We know of one called Power Home Remodeling! This company surprised us with the way the process works. When you talk about smooth, no worries, and no guess work, wondering what’s going on; Power stripped all of that away with professionalism throughout the process from the initial consultation through material delivery, project installation and financing were easy. We had a total of five projects that started in January and completed in April. Our first project was getting a new roof. The crew came and worked from 0730 and completed the job at 1430. They had a crew of about 6-9 guys working on the roof. They cleaned up the area as they found it. The second project was the attic. They put this solar eclipse covering in the attic that regulates heat. Instead of the attic being very hot in the summer it will keep the temperature moderate. We are very pleased with the work and look of the roof and attic. The third project were the gutters! Man, these gutters are much larger in diameter than the original ones. I do not worry about ice buildup. The fourth and fifth project was the Foyer entry door and Half-moon window. This crew came on April 8, 2019 around 0830 and completed the job at 1600 hrs. We are very pleased with each project that was done with professionalism. We are so, elated that POWER did the work and completed it in a timely manner that we reached out to them for another project putting new patio doors in with automated shade. We are looking forward to them completing this project as the others with professionalism, care and dedication. "From project beginning to end, Keith and Company demonstrated an exceptionally high level of professionalism. For example, Mr. Keith spent a considerable amount of time taking "before" and "after" photos of the roof. He then used these photos to discuss and patiently explain his estimate, the scope of work required, the materials recommended, and finally, the end result. I could not have been more pleased with the entire process! In accordance with the contract, Keith and Company prepped all areas where indicated on both my front porch and the main flat roof. The workmen then installed new modified Bitumen rubber across the entire flashing of the front porch where it joins the front wall of my home. They also installed new rubber on the vents, on the main roof vent flashings, and around the entire skylight and other areas where needed. Without question, I highly recommend Keith and Company Roofing!"

"New gutter install im back of building. Would have them come back to performed work. The cost of a dry roof and walls is priceless. Good workmanship cost bit well worth the prices. A+ service"

"Chevy Chase Remodeling put on a new roof on my Potomac house a couple months ago. They did a great job communicating timeline, expectations, and options up front, and then executed the job really well.  Steven and his team were all helpful and easy to work with. The offer was competitive as well. Job site was thoroughly cleaned up after. There were some minor things that needed to be addressed after the job was complete, both on the same day as well as several weeks later, and Steven and his team were able to take care of that immediately.  We love the new roof and are looking forward to many years.  Would definitely recommend to use Chevy Chase Remodeling if you need a roof."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Laurel, MD

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
