"My Patio concrete slab had cracked in the 1995 earthquake and had gradually settled over the years. We wanted to tile the area but with the uneven slab (ranging from +1/4" to +7/8") we needed to get the slab leveled and stabilized. This was the first time that I had contemplated using a foam injection method for stabilization and leveling. Slabjack Geothechnical (Andrew) was professional, technically competent (I am an engineer) and exuded confidence (they have an impressive video display of a variety of successful projects) and most importantly - they have excellent reviews! Jamie came out and got the entire area (with it's multiple cracks) leveled! Kudos too to the owner Jerry, and Manager Ann, who were courteous, patient, and did not hustle me into making a hurried decision. Thank you to all of them."

MANGUM'S CONCRETE FORMING

"We bought a fixer-upper home with no garage and after receiving several estimates on having a garage installed, we settled on Mangum's Concrete. Lou showed up for the estimate with dirt on his boots which to me was a good sign because I knew his estimate and advice were first-hand. He struck me as honest and true and it ends up that I was correct. Lou not only did a great job on every aspect of the project, from planning to excavating to finishing the job, he also removed a large tree from our property, leveled out our pasture, and spread new gravel on our driveway. If he was not there personally to oversee the work, he arrived after each phase of the job to check on progress, even going so far as to require his crew to re-do an entire afternoon's work which was not done to his satisfaction. I doubt if his crew appreciated it, but I sure did. Not too long after construction, our area was hit by a hail storm with baseball-sized hail and winds that tipped over trees. The garage proved to be solid and sturdy and was no worse for the storm. It has been several months since construction, and we have had no problems whatsoever. The garage we chose is 24x36 feet. It is insulated in walls and roof and has an electric garage door, 2 windows, several electrical outlets and outdoor lighting, a concrete apron, and man door with a roof over it. Lou would be my first choice if we ever need anything like this done again, and he has already been back to our place to deliver gravel for another project we are working on. He is no nonsense and easy to work with. <br />"

"These local young men went over and above my expectations! Their bid was far less than I thought their work would have cost and they did an AMAZING job! They did decorative curbing around my trees and shrubs and removed some sod I no longer wanted. After they got started they found four railroad ties in the ground that had to be removed before they could begin the work and they did not even charge me for all the extra labor to dig them up and haul them away. These guys hardly took a bathroom break until the job was finished. Cleanup is not usually included with some jobs like this but they cleaned up everything and hauled it all away for me. They really did a great job and were very nice and professional. I would refer them to anyone wanting quality work at an amazing price. <br />"

"We called Mr. Gill for an estimate and were pleased with both the estimate and the ideas he had for our sidewalk.  It was not the easiest area due  to grade problems around house.  He recommended a small retaining wall to prevent water from running towards house.  He had some difficulty fitting us in between other jobs and weather issues but when they did get to us, it went fast.  They were very professional.  One day they came and leveled areas and set forms for pouring concrete.  Next day they were here and began pouring.  They took every precaution to not damage our existing lawn and road.  They covered the concrete to protect against cold. Mr. Gill came by and checked on it the next few days and then his crew arrived to remove all covers and finish cleanup.  The results were wonderful.  I waited to write this review so I could better tell you how the sidewalk has weathered the winter.  It was an exceptionally cold winter.  The melting snow never pooled against house but ran off towards lawn. Shovel snow was easy. Rain just washes away and does not pool either. It was sloped perfectly. Mr. Gill also came back later and checked on the pour to see that is was ok. Now it is April and the sidewalk is beautiful.  It has added to the comfort of getting around our yard and is  going to be a great asset to our home's value.  We now have an 8' wide sidewalk that will allow us to move around easily and to barbeque, etc. I would highly recommend Mr. Gill and his crew and would use them again in any future jobs we might have. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Lewiston, ID

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
