"American craftsmen showed up on time, worked steadily and did a beautiful job on the roof. They also installed permanent gutter guards. We were well pleased with their work and would highly recommend"

Customers say: True professional

"I hired Clyde to replace a roof after tornado damage. I was a bit skeptical of all his great reviews, but I can see why he received them. Clyde was very detailed oriented, careful, easy to contact and communicate with, and was determined to a an excellent job. He was one of the few contractors who made sure everything was covered in his estimate and gave me options for upgrades, with no pressure to choose them. Excellent contractor who takes pride in his work and wants to do a great job on time and at the price quoted."

"They came out the day of my call to inspect roof and informed of issues present. A few days later we had our roof on the house and both buildings replaced all in one day. We also had beautiful black gutters installed. Solid work would recommend them to anyone needing roof or gutter work"

"From the time if the initial estimate to the installation, everything went smoothly. I decided to change to a metal roof because I was renovating the room that has a low slope rubber roof and have had several leaks. I was not about to add insulation and a new ceiling and have to deal with a potential for leaks. Thus, I felt a metal roof would be the best option. Because I only have 2 X6 with no attic  I decided to add foam board insulation to the roof deck and Dave gave me a fair price. I'm glad I added the foam board to deck and it gives me extra pitch too. Dave upgraded the ice and snow membrane at no extra charge. The workers were great and they stayed late to ensure that the roof was sealed before they left because there was a chance of showers. Additionally, they sealed all of my roof penetrations on the rest of my house and  fixed some shingles had a previous leak without me asking at no charge! Wow what service.

"I had a great experience with Excel Roofing from start to finish. Their team was professional, responsive, and took the time to clearly explain the process and options available. The inspection was thorough, the estimate was fair and transparent, and the crew showed up on time and worked efficiently. The quality of the installation exceeded my expectations — everything looks excellent and was cleaned up perfectly afterward. Communication throughout the project was consistent, and I always felt like my questions were a priority. I would highly recommend Excel Roofing to anyone looking for a reliable, trustworthy, and detail-oriented roofing company. They truly stand behind their work and make the entire process stress-free."

"This was the first time that I'd been exposed to them.  I tried looking them up on Angie's List, I got some recommendations, I talked to a fellow who told me about how he installed roofs.  Like I said, they're local so I got to go to their office in Hillsboro and meet the staff.  His receptionist was very good in working with me at getting documents and signatures and anything else that they needed and setting up appointments.  They had another lady there that worked with me in the color and the style of the shingles, which I really liked because at that time, I had no idea what I was looking at.  I got the very highest end asphalt shingles for the house - and a very steep roofed house.  And I also had them finish the guttering around the house - enclosed gutters - so they put all of that on.  As I said, they cleaned up very well behind themselves.  If I remember correctly, it still took them a day.  And they had walk-throughs; they send somebody over and they follow us, and we walk the area.  So, I liked them.  Just go ahead and put A's for everything.  I would use them again and I would recommend them to somebody who is looking for a roofer."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Mebane, NC

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
