"Lonn arrived on time. He explained everything he was going to do, and verified the price for the water heater and city permit. He laid tarps down to protect our carpeted floor and stairs, and cleaned up after he was done. He also noticed that some of our pipe ceiling hooks/hangers were broken and he replaced those. They took the old water heater away the same day."

"It went better than expected. Jake was quick, very personable, and very knowledgeable in what he was doing. He identified a quick fix and was fast at getting the work done. Didn't mess around or try to sell me anything extra, just gave really good and professional advice. Mike contacted me within hours of my request on the weekend. I'd highly recommend both of these two and will use them again if needed."

"Water Heater:  They picked up the new heater, took out the old, installed the new and everything was done when I got home from work.  It was wonderful.Back Flow Valve:  This is a big job.  It was done because of the area I live and problems with flooding.  They had to dig out dirt, install the valve and pour new concrete.  Everything was cleaned up great when they were done.  I also felt very confident they knew what they were doing.Faucets:  He had to make two trips as I bought the wrong kind of faucet for the laundry tub, but he didn't complain.  They all work great - no more dripping!Unclogged toilet:  Was done in a very short time. <br /> It's a family business and they are VERY nice, know what they are doing and are very professional.  They were recommended to me and I have recommended them to others.  I wouldn't hesitate to call them if I needed more plumbing work done."

"I called on a Tuesday morning about my issues. I had a tech onsite within an hour, which was amazing considering it was non-emergency service. I was expecting it to be days before I saw someone. Tech resolved my first issue within five minutes. For the shower issue, they had to bring out a second technician, who came back the next day and resolved the issue within an hour. I was billed for two separate hour minimums, which I was concerned about since I laid out the scope of both issues in my initial call. They resolved the billing issue beyond my satisfaction. I will definitely use them for all my plumbing needs. One of the best (if not the best) vendors I've ever used from a responsiveness and quality perspective."

"We've had Laney's come out and do several jobs over the years and have been very happy with all of them. We've had them do electrical work (installing new light fixtures), plumbing (a variety of tasks), and the installation and maintenance of a gas boiler (replacing an old oil system). Each and every technician who has come out to do a job has been very professional and willing to explain everything that needed to be done."

"It went very well. After a bit of a wait, I received a very comprehensive report of 88 specific items as well as bacteria, fungi and particles. Each Item detected over the EPA drinking water limits had an explanation sheet. Also provided was a contact person at the company to address any questions you had about the report findings. I thought the service was well worth the $300 just for the peace of mind. I intend to use the company on an annual basis going forward."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Moorhead, MN

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
