"Replacing a roof and gutters is a major project and finding the right roofing company was very important to me. I met with a number of different companies and finally decided on CHI (Craftsman Home Improvement). They didn’t just come look at the roof and send me a proposal instead they came looked at the roof and spent over an hour with me explaining the process working with me on how to improve the gutters so the flow would be better for my property. This did not mean more expensive gutters just a Different installation from previous. Once I contracted with them the project manger reached out to set up a start date. The team that came out to do the job was both professional and efficient. They did a great job. I would definitely recommend them for anyone looking for a new roof. They also coordinated with the team doing some chimney repairs on my house which was extremely helpful to me."

"A friend of mine recommended Coates Roofing when I ended up needing to get an estimate on re-shingling my roof this past fall due to storm damage. Kevin was great. He came over, wrote down meticulous notes and measurements and worked well with our insurance adjuster. He was always available to answer questions when we called, which was great as we were out of town at the time they re-shingled the roof. <br /> I would happily refer Coates Roofing to anyone that needs to replace their roof. <br />"

"22nd Century Roofing is great to work with. What I thought was just loose facia turned out to be rotting wood. Tyler from 22nd Century Roofing came out to determine the scope of work. The scope of work was very detailed to include photos. He also made sure that new aluminum facia would match my existing facia. The cost was around what I was expecting and there was never any pressure to get the work scheduled. The install crew did a great job and were very professional and cleaned up after they were done."

"It went well.  Ron was professional and did the entire job by himself.  At first estimate, I was taken aback by the price, since the materials themselves only added up to about $1200 max.  Yes, he charges about $225 an hour in labor...he was at our house for about 7.5 hours.  That originally put me off from sealing the deal, but then I thought about the job and how important it was to have an expert - this is, after all, holes in our brand new roof.  I know that if I ever called Velux about skylights, they would send me to Ron anyway, so he was the person we picked.   <br /> He comes at 6 am, but he insisted we didn't have to be up at that time, and started with the kitchen light rather than the bedroom so we could sleep.  He asked me to help by standing under the skylights and letting him know (while he was up there) if they were square and level in the hole.  I was a little nervous about that, but it was easy to see when they were in right.  <br /> To repair the roof around the opening, Ron brought shingles to match the house, but they weren't the right 'dimensional' style, so he used the shingles we had from our new roof job and knocked $25 off the price.  I thought that was nice.  <br /> I would definitely hire him again.  You are paying for his experience, and you don't want some cheap contractor messing with your skylights!  He also stands behind his install, however we have had no problems through many hard rains for the last two months. <br />"

"After a hail storm, I contracted EZ to install a new roof. The rep was easy to get ahold of 7 days a week, and ran my questions down fast. The crew did an amazingly quick job on both of my buildings, and after they had finished and left, a few laps around the property showed zero evidence that they had ever been there! Well done, EZ!"

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Princeton, MN

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
