Customers say: Quality work

"Rock Solid has done tuck pointing on our 1935 brick colonial house 10 years ago and they were great. The repair work is still holding. Fastforward 2022, RS came back to work on redoing the bricks on back patio. Just as before, quality is great, price point is good and time estimate accurate. James Walsh is patient, answers any questions before starting projects. It was a pleasure to work with him and his team. We highly recommend Rock Solid."

"Roberto and his team were excellent, from start to finish. They built a 230 sq ft bluestone patio (concrete base), along with a step into our house, and it now looks like it was always part of our house. Their price was much better than several others, the quality of the work was excellent, and they finished it more quickly than anticipated. They were very willing to incorporate custom suggestions and were transparent about the entire process. I would definitely hire them again."

"The pricing was in between the other quotes I received - not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. The job ended up being more complex than expected, as sometimes happens with construction projects, but David worked with me to come to a mutually agreeable, reasonable solution. I chose this company because when he explained what would be done, it was detailed and had all of the steps I had expected. Some quotes from other people left out steps that I expected. At the end of the day, I probably paid a bit more than I initially wanted, but I received a level of service and professionalism that I was comfortable with. This is a good trade off from my perspective. We are very happy with the way the concrete floor was done."

"We needed an underground oil storage tank removed to complete the sale of our home.  Mike the salesman answered all our questions, Cheryl in the office took care of all the paperwork, and the crew removing the oil tank were top-notch guys.  We also had Steve-Rich re-pave the section of the driveway that was disturbed."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Spring Valley, NY

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
