"Had a very difficult time finding a company that was respectful of the urgency/nature of my need to have the AC replaced given the 90 degree weather we were having. Had recently moved into a place and just found out it wasn't working. These guys came out to take a look and had the job done within 24 hours. Can't say much for the price, since I didn't have time to shop around, but at a time in need this couldn't be beat. I've had many home projects done over the past couple months, and It's refreshing to see someone take pride in their business and put their customers first."

"The technician, I did not get his name, but it was not Darrel or the Owner, but another guy. He said he took a digital picture and found that my heat exchanger had been damaged by my Older A/C condenser leaking on to it. I later called back to see the picture, but they could not provide it. What really was going on is this technician badly wanted to sell me a new A/C unit. He told me I could get a real good after the season deal for a new 2 ton 13 seer Bryant A/C for $3,500. I had rembered when Darrel quoted me the same price in June, so I knew not to fall for his price. I just had another Company's Technician install today a 2 1/2 to 13 Seer Carrier for $2,750 and he told me he did not see anything wrong with the Heat Exchanger. This was the main reason why I broke down and got the new A/C today. It is evident to me now that the Krane Technician lied to me. I am not happy about this and will not use Krane again, since they hire guys like this."

"I initially hired Zach, through a recommendation from a friend, to replace my hot water tank and ended up needing a furnace replacement. A week before I had my hot water tank replaced - the tank was still working at the time- I had another company come out to clean my furnace. They were able to clean my furnace, but told my one of my motors was going and gave me 4 different quotes, all quite expensive, to replace my furnace. A couple of days later, my tank started to go, which is when I called Zach. Zach did a great job replacing tank a price that was cheaper than another contractor for the same model. After turning on my tank, he also inspected my furnace, which was emitting carbon monoxide. The company that cleaned it a week prior never notified my of the issue. Zach was able to come out the next day and install the same furnace the other company quoted for much less. His people did a great job and left my basement cleaner than they found it. I would highly recommend their service."

"Our service professional was professional and personable. He came the same day and worked in the pouring rain to fix our air conditioner. He did not try to upsell us on anything that was not needed. He was very cautious about tracking in water and mud. Everything was cleaned when he was done. He even swapped out our filter for the furnace while he was here."

FAQs for air conditioning projects in Highland, MI

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.

Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.

Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.

Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.

Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
