"I called first thing in the morning on June 30th, as I had been without hot water since the previous Friday night. (Good thing it wasn't winter!) They not only came out within an hour, they secured a new unit and installed it the same day! That included emptying the old unit, removing it and installing the new one. The job was done by mid-afternoon.
They gave me a quote over the phone, and billed me the same amount. I was very pleased.
Last summer they installed a new central air unit for me, did a great job then as well. I just hope the furnace isn't going to go next! But if it does, I will know who to call.

"This was my first time using Omni Mechanical and I am very pleased in their service of my oil fired boiler. I had recently purchased my home and had very little knowledge of any prior maintenance of the boiler. Other than knowing it’s an older unit I didn’t know what to expect of the internal components when it was opened up and inspected. The techs were nice enough to let me observe as they were opening up the unit and exposed the internals. So I could see for myself what they were talking about and physically see the condition. They walked me through what they were doing every step of the way. Taking the time to explain parts they needed to change and actually showing me the condition of the older parts as they were changing them. After all work was complete. Everything was left very neat and clean. This by far has been one of my most pleasant encounters with a contractor. I will definitely strongly consider them in the future for any work I need."

"The guys were on time, cheerful, thorough, and and got the job done. They were thoughtful about my cat, too. The 'sanitization' stuff they sprayed did smell for a few days, despite my airing out the house with the windows open, but it did eventually go away. And they must have gotten a lot of dust out because my children (who are usually very sneezy with the dust pumping through our house) have seemed much better since the ducts got cleaned. Very happy with the service. I used an Angie's List "deal" for the service--I was in a hurry to get it done (my kids had dropped some art supplies down a vent that were making clicking noised that were driving me nuts) so I didn't compare prices at all, I just looked for a company that seemed thorough and they they were. And the clicking sounds of rogue art supplies is gone. Yay!"

FAQs for air conditioning projects in North Westchester, CT

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.

Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.

Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.

Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.

Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
