"We were referred to Cawiamca in Old Saybrook, CT, 860-661-5913, by Fujitsu United States, to fix our Split System air conditioner that stopped working on the hottest day of the year. Cawiamca technicians responded immediately. They are professional, efficient and personable. They analyzed the problem and fixed it for a very reasonable fee. We couldn't be more pleased with the service they provided. We will certainly use Cawiamca if needed again."

"Bill was amazing from the start. Within an hour of submitting an inquiry through home advisor he immediately contacted me. Not only did he have questions but also provided minor troubleshooting steps to ensure it wasn't anything small causing my forced air system from consistently power cycling. Highly recommended."

"I cannot say enough good things about Ryan to do him justice. Ryan installed a full house Mitsubishi Ductless Heat-pump (8 air handlers and 2 compressors) system for me. Of the 8 quotes I received from various local contractors, Ryan had the best price by far for the same exact system! He showed up exactly when he said he would and would always respond to my communications in a timely manner. He went out of his way to have make sure the install was attractive and clean on the exterior. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the whole experience and could honestly keep going on about how pleased I am. He is an honest professional who I would highly recommend for any of his services, especially a ductless install."

FAQs for air conditioning projects in Old Lyme, CT

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.

Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.

Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.

Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.

Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
