"Todd Willoughby is a very talented architect. We have had the pleasure of working with him to design our custom home in Middleburg, Virginia. Todd is extremely knowledgeable about residential and commercial construction. This is our third custom home, and we have worked with several other architects on various projects through the years. My husband is in commercial construction and has worked with numerous architects in the past forty years. The biggest difference with Todd is that we felt as though he wanted to design the house that WE wanted, not the house that he wanted to design for us. He listened to every suggestion and made every change we recommended to design our home exactly the way we envisioned. His step by step design process allowed us to see our ideas come together. We were able to see whether we were achieving the look we had in mind. Todd gave us very helpful suggestions. He responded to every question and email almost immediately. He told us exactly what to expect and when to expect it. His 3D model was amazing and unbelievably helpful in allowing us to "experience" the sizes of the rooms, windows and many other little details. It gave a perspective that is just not possible to get from a 2D drawing. Todd was even able to put the civil engineer's grading plan on 3D showing the house and property. We have never seen an architect be able to do this. It helped immensely. "Went very well. Complete in 2 full days with a 2-person crew. They paid particular attention to aesthetics afterward which I appreciated. Most positive part was, they finished the day before a torrential rain storm which washed away much of the disturbed soil (where the drainage pipe was buried) as well as mulch and some river stones. I informed them and, without my realizing, they returned to my property, cleaned everything up and left quietly. When you do jobs like this, things can go wrong (including the uncontrollable, like inclement weather). What I appreciated was how responsive they were and how they ultimately made it clear that they wanted to do a good job for their customer. Lily, the project manager was great. The crew did a good job. The price was at par with other places but I'll take that + great communication and responsiveness any day. I love how Jose has eye for the littlest details and he always one step ahead of me with something that needs his attention on, he already thought it and has solution on how get it done. I originally hire Jose a while back where he did retainer wall and did beautiful job so I knew he was capable of doing great work with my next project. My front stairs were never right they little wonky. "I have used an architect in the past for major renovations at my house. Unfortunately, he passed away so I needed to find a new one for the extensive renovations that I want to do at my rental house. I contacted five architects, all of whom were not interested -- probably because one phase of the project involved expanding the basement. All said that it would be a very expensive and difficult venture. When I told the last architect that I spoke to that I had sketched plans of what I envisioned for my project, his response was that I didn’t need an architect; I needed a designer/draftsman. In our discussion, Gary suggested instead of expanding the basement that we enclose the patio and create a screened porch and then build a bedroom above. The process went quickly (about 8 weeks) and smoothly. We had two Zoom meetings where Gary presented us with his drawings. He made the changes we suggested in real-time. It was so much fun to watch him make the changes right in front of us. Gary was very responsive to all my calls and emails. He listened to what we wanted and he made it happen. Gary is well organized and he is very detail-oriented. His fees were very reasonable. We paid about one-eighth the amount that one architect had quoted. It was a seamless process from start to finish. I highly recommend Gary and his company, Kapital Drafting."
