Comment: We want a good plan designed by a structural engineer (ideally someone used to working with old post-and-beam structures) telling us exactly what we should have a contractor do to fix the following issues: 1. Our house was built ca. 1790 and is located in the Hattertown neighborhood of Newtown, CT. There is a failed connection (due to old powder post beetle damage) in the attic, between one of the rafters and the post it should be resting on. There is no visible-to-the-eye sag in the roof, or any other obvious evidence of movement as a result of this failed connection - at least, not yet. 2. Also in the house, there are one or two places in the basement where things that look like they ought to be resting firmly on some major-looking support elements are not making contact. I'm not sure what to call things here; the support elements are very large wood projections sticking out around the central fireplace/chimney. 3. Finally, we have a barn, also ca. 1790, with a failed connection
