"My church hired pristine ceilings to install a new acoustical, drop ceiling in a 4,400sf multi purpose church hall. New ceiling had to be attached to an existing 2 x 2 coffered concrete ceiling structure. Scott provided many options in terms of pricing, quality and acoustic properties. He made it easy for our property team to decide on the best option that would work within our budget. Scott always returned our calls promptly. We were especially pleased with the high level of craftsmanship that Scott and his team employed. They were able to wrap trim and tile neatly around our round columns. I would highly recommend Scott Mason of Pristine Acoustical Ceilings for any business or residential project. Their work is absolutely top notch!!!"

"Last year ACH built a bathroom and laundry/mud room addition on my house and gutted and replaced my existing bathroom. A follow-on project was to replace all the windows and the exterior siding. I was so pleased with the work I decided to contract with ACH to update my kitchen this Summer. The kitchen upgrade included, new cabinets, marble counter, and sink. As with my experience last year, it was a pleasure to work with ACH Construction and the workmanship is excellent. I wanted to keep the existing layout and back splash tile. ACH was able to accommodate my requests. I highly recommend ACH construction for any home remodeling project. They take pride in their work, do an excellent job and are a pleasure to work with."

"I received a response the day after I submitted an Angie's list request. I was asked to send photos of the damaged area (the toilet upstairs leaked and damaged ceiling in bathroom below). Within one week of the initial conversation, the job was complete! The employee was profession, and the work was excellent! I would highly recommend them."

"MMP inspected the roof and gave us a quote the next day. They did no maintenance work but credited us on the replacement quote. Once we signed and placed a deposit on the new roof, the scheduling was quick (within about 1-1.5 weeks). After confirming our color choice, they dropped off the shingles/supplies on a tuesday and by the end of the next day they were completely done and cleaned up. Found some stray plastic in the back yard but otherwise everything was cleaned up well. Looks great and seemed to hold up well in the recent downpours we had."

"I recently purchased an old house, built in 1940. My intention is to remodel the basement as a home theater space. I write about consumer electronics professionally, so this is not just a hobby room, but is needed for my career. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that I have a huge budget. I have to pay for all expenses out of pocket, right after having just bought the house.
The house had a finished room in the basement, but it was completed in the '40s or '50s and was unsuitable for my needs. I was able to strip the old walls and ceiling myself, but need a real contractor with crew to build them back up again, complete with heavy insulation and soundproofing materials. It is essential that I isolate the room from all sounds coming from upstairs, and that I don't disturb my wife or neighbors when watching loud movies.
Scott Curtice came out to the house twice for consultation, once on his own and once with his carpenter. Scott was extremely helpful, knowledgable, friendly and professional. Although he is not a specialist in soundproofing, he was able to do some research for me and provided three estimates for different ways he could complete the project considering my restricted budget. He also advised on other problems I've discovered with the house during this process.
While planning this project, I have also met with or spoken to several other firms. The Curtice Group quickly stood out as a front-runner for the job. Ultimately, I decided to move forward with another firm. However, that was due almost entirely to my very specific, specialized needs, and is not a reflection on the Curtice Group. My experiences with Scott were nothing but positive.

FAQs for acoustic ceiling tiles install projects in Lincoln, MA

Ask the following questions to make sure you know what’s involved and that you’ve hired a good team:

  • Is your company licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • What is the best tile size for my project?

  • What fire rating do my ceiling tiles need?

  • How long will it take to install the drop ceiling?

  • What is the height of the finished drop ceiling?

Most residential building codes require a minimum ceiling height of 7.5 feet from the floor to the finished drop ceiling, ensuring adequate headroom and safety compliance. Since requirements can vary by location, consult your local code enforcement office or a professional installer to confirm the specific clearance needed for your project.

Installing a drop ceiling results in a loss of ceiling height ranging from 3 inches to 8 inches. The exact amount depends on factors like the size of the fixtures above, such as ductwork or lighting, and the manufacturer's recommendations for installation. Local building codes also dictate minimum ceiling heights, so it's important to consult with a professional installer to determine the optimal drop distance for your specific space.

Installing drywall costs between $1.50 and $3 per square foot for materials, labor, and finishing—significantly less than the $9 to $13 per square foot average for a drop ceiling. While drop ceilings come with a higher initial cost, they offer greater design flexibility, easy access to utility lines, and are simpler and less expensive to repair. To minimize expenses, consider budget-friendly fiberboard panels, though their appearance may be less appealing to some homeowners.

Drop ceilings offer several advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  • Easy to install and repair

  • Conceal stains, ductwork, and other unsightly elements

  • Provide quick access to ducts and wiring for maintenance

  • Available in various styles to suit your design preferences

Cons:

  • Reduce ceiling height

  • Tiles may require replacement after a few years

  • Less sturdy than traditional ceilings

  • Installation can be more time-consuming than drywall

Removing a drop ceiling costs between $2 and $7 per square foot, which includes disassembling the rail system and removing tiles. Factors such as ceiling size, accessibility, and disposal fees affect the total cost. If you're removing a drywall ceiling, expect costs of $2 to $4 per square foot. Hiring a professional ensures safe removal and proper disposal, preventing damage to underlying structures.
