"Our bedroom ceiling caved in recently. Needless to say, it was quite a mess with insulation debris and drywall pieces everywhere. Taulant responded quickly through Angie’s List after I requested a quote and called me right away. He was courteous, came by the next day to inspect, and gave us a very competitive quote. We hired him, and he and his brother did a great job. They showed up on time, were discreet and professional, and finished the ceiling repair, drywall, and painting in two and a half days. Communication was smooth, and we were very happy with the results. Minimal paperwork made the process easy. The ceiling looks great, and they handled all the debris and cleaned up afterwards. I would highly recommend Taulant for any drywall job and greatly appreciate the awesome work he and his brother did for us."

"Pete did a great job with installing a drywall ceiling in my basement. He did a great job cutting around all ten light fixtures as well as some challenging vents and piping. He left the work area clean and tidy after each days work and did a great final clean up as well. Was on-time and worked hard all day each day of work."

"Dave's crew was excellent. They installed new drywall in an existing skylight well, and repaired cracks in our ceiling in several rooms. They were very clean and were very meticulous... Fantastic paint lines! Would definitely hire them again!"

"The women who performed their work did a fine job - but we asked specifically for a DEEP clean, which I thought meant floors scrubbed, bookselves dusted, soffits dusted, wood work washed, etc. That did not happen, in fact the ceiling fans were not cleaned because the folks who were sent could not reach them. We received a good overall cleaning, but not what I would call a "deep clean."

"This was my second large project with Jack and his team. They do amazing work. See photo of the ceiling and built-ins they installed as part of a renovation of this 1927 home."

"Wonderful experience with the brothers. I had my dining room, family room, main hallway upstairs and first floor, plus bathroom. They were both quick and efficient. They were strong communicators and provided a quick response for every question. I would definitely hire again for my next painting job and would recommend to those up in lake county."

"We couldn’t be happier with our new basement remodel. We added a new bathroom, heated tiles and fireplace. Artius Remodeling did a fantastic job from beginning to end; the attention to detail was outstanding! They exceeded our expectations."

Ask the following questions to make sure you know what’s involved and that you’ve hired a good team:
Is your company licensed, bonded, and insured?
What is the best tile size for my project?
What fire rating do my ceiling tiles need?
How long will it take to install the drop ceiling?
What is the height of the finished drop ceiling?
Most residential building codes require a minimum ceiling height of 7.5 feet from the floor to the finished drop ceiling, ensuring adequate headroom and safety compliance. Since requirements can vary by location, consult your local code enforcement office or a professional installer to confirm the specific clearance needed for your project.
Installing a drop ceiling results in a loss of ceiling height ranging from 3 inches to 8 inches. The exact amount depends on factors like the size of the fixtures above, such as ductwork or lighting, and the manufacturer's recommendations for installation. Local building codes also dictate minimum ceiling heights, so it's important to consult with a professional installer to determine the optimal drop distance for your specific space.
Installing drywall costs between $1.50 and $3 per square foot for materials, labor, and finishing—significantly less than the $9 to $13 per square foot average for a drop ceiling. While drop ceilings come with a higher initial cost, they offer greater design flexibility, easy access to utility lines, and are simpler and less expensive to repair. To minimize expenses, consider budget-friendly fiberboard panels, though their appearance may be less appealing to some homeowners.
Drop ceilings offer several advantages and disadvantages.
Pros:
Easy to install and repair
Conceal stains, ductwork, and other unsightly elements
Provide quick access to ducts and wiring for maintenance
Available in various styles to suit your design preferences
Cons:
Reduce ceiling height
Tiles may require replacement after a few years
Less sturdy than traditional ceilings
Installation can be more time-consuming than drywall
Removing a drop ceiling costs between $2 and $7 per square foot, which includes disassembling the rail system and removing tiles. Factors such as ceiling size, accessibility, and disposal fees affect the total cost. If you're removing a drywall ceiling, expect costs of $2 to $4 per square foot. Hiring a professional ensures safe removal and proper disposal, preventing damage to underlying structures.
