"We submitted our project on HomeAdvisor and Jerry Moore responded within 24 hours. Jerry came out and we discussed the project - add & paint drywall+insulation to an existing 2x4 wall frame separating basement area from garage, add suspended ceiling, stain & seal concrete floor. Jerry provided an estimate that seemed reasonable and much more affordable than a previous estimate obtained outside of HomeAdvisor. We accepted Jerryâ s Estimate. They started work promptly on a Tuesday and finished the following Wednesday. Initially, for the ceiling, we wanted to use the existing 2 light fixtures, but it turned out that the existing position(s) ruined the symmetry of the ceiling tile grid(s). Jerry had previously suggested using Halo Surface Mount LED(s) and we decided to go with that option and the results were well worth the extra cost. The drywall work included completing a soffit around an A/C duct and we were pleased with that result. The concrete floor had plumbing fixtures that were covered and sealed. The 3 remaining walls are concrete block that already had DryLok applied. Jerryâ s team painted those walls to match the new wall. On the 2nd day after paint was applied, we noticed some of the concrete etching & stain had discolored the new wall paint near the bottom and that some areas of the concrete stain discolored where it came in contact with the DryLok. Jerryâ s Paint Crew, led by Mario, added a second coat to everything. Overall, the project took a week and 1 day to complete. My wife and I are quite satisfied with the overall results and the cost. Jerryâ s Team was prompt, courteous, and professional, We were always informed as to who would be arriving, the time, and steps/tasks that would be performed. We would definitely consider Jerry Moore & Absolute Drywall again on future projects."

"The process from start to finish was super easy for me! Michael Trussell met with me, listened to my needs and concerns and promptly laid out a game plan When there was a bump in the road with door dimensions, he addressed it, discussed it with me and we reset our plans. One thing that’s important to me, as a single person, is having people in my home that I don’t know. Michael personally introduced his staff to me and was present at different intervals throughout the job. I felt at ease and confident of everyone that participated on the job. The staff is professional, knowledgeable and courteous I love my new doors! Highly recommend Cahaba Building Group!"

Customers say: Quality work

"I was very happy with them at the beginning but was more irritated than happy with them at the end. The two workers that did the demo, carpentry and painting were excellent. The guy that did the tile did okay with the tile but I found a place in the shower floor that was filled with caulk. It came out when I was cleaning and left a hole in the grout. There were several things they did at the end that I thought were sloppy. The supervisor told me to and quot;trust him and quot; and go ahead and pay him and he would come back the next work day and install the insulation that I paid for and I still haven't heard back after more than a month. I had someone else fix the things that were not right or undone.

FAQs for acoustic ceiling tiles install projects in Sterrett, AL

Ask the following questions to make sure you know what’s involved and that you’ve hired a good team:

  • Is your company licensed, bonded, and insured?

  • What is the best tile size for my project?

  • What fire rating do my ceiling tiles need?

  • How long will it take to install the drop ceiling?

  • What is the height of the finished drop ceiling?

Most residential building codes require a minimum ceiling height of 7.5 feet from the floor to the finished drop ceiling, ensuring adequate headroom and safety compliance. Since requirements can vary by location, consult your local code enforcement office or a professional installer to confirm the specific clearance needed for your project.

Installing a drop ceiling results in a loss of ceiling height ranging from 3 inches to 8 inches. The exact amount depends on factors like the size of the fixtures above, such as ductwork or lighting, and the manufacturer's recommendations for installation. Local building codes also dictate minimum ceiling heights, so it's important to consult with a professional installer to determine the optimal drop distance for your specific space.

Installing drywall costs between $1.50 and $3 per square foot for materials, labor, and finishing—significantly less than the $9 to $13 per square foot average for a drop ceiling. While drop ceilings come with a higher initial cost, they offer greater design flexibility, easy access to utility lines, and are simpler and less expensive to repair. To minimize expenses, consider budget-friendly fiberboard panels, though their appearance may be less appealing to some homeowners.

Drop ceilings offer several advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  • Easy to install and repair

  • Conceal stains, ductwork, and other unsightly elements

  • Provide quick access to ducts and wiring for maintenance

  • Available in various styles to suit your design preferences

Cons:

  • Reduce ceiling height

  • Tiles may require replacement after a few years

  • Less sturdy than traditional ceilings

  • Installation can be more time-consuming than drywall

Removing a drop ceiling costs between $2 and $7 per square foot, which includes disassembling the rail system and removing tiles. Factors such as ceiling size, accessibility, and disposal fees affect the total cost. If you're removing a drywall ceiling, expect costs of $2 to $4 per square foot. Hiring a professional ensures safe removal and proper disposal, preventing damage to underlying structures.
