"The basement waterproofing contractors we found in Southwest Michigan were expensive, and even among this group, Foundation Systems is on the pricey side. Everdry was even more expensive. However, Foundation Systems has done good work and have been available and friendly in response to our questions"

"After looking for landscapers for months, we found Platinum Ponds and Landscaping through Home Advisor. The owner, Ryan, immediately responded to my call, came quickly to do an estimate and stayed in touch while they scheduled our work. We had a difficult job of trying to join a new patio to some old existing bricks so it was challenging but I am very happy with the result. We will certainly call Ryan again. His crew was professional, friendly and always cleaned up to our satisfaction."

"For the past several years my driveway has been destroyed by the roots of a 50 ft. tall pine tree which had broken through the existing concrete, resulting in large chunks, making it an uneven and unsafe surface. For this project I needed some serious excavation to not only remove the pieces of concrete, but also dig out the very large pine tree roots. Tresemer Concrete & Excavating came to the rescue, completing my 100 ft. long driveway in only one day. I was absolutely so impressed with their work. "I Cut Lawncare did a great job putting in the retaining wall. They put in so much time and effort into making sure it turned out perfect, everything looked clean and even. The crew worked hard, stayed on time, and kept the area tidy. They made sure the wall was sturdy and looked good from every angle. Now it holds rock (along with the under drain) perfectly and makes the yard look way better. You can tell it was built right and will last a long time."

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.
Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.
Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.
An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
