"This was a joint project shared with my neighbor. We are a pair of twin houses. The crew was efficient and tireless in completing the project despite not having the bet weather condition to do concrete work. We would definitely recommend them to anyone that asks."

"Late into the night, I was weary eyed and fatigued, trying to find whoâ d replace or repair my concrete sidewalk. With the final click of the mouse, I went to sleep, only to be awakened by Spade Concrete wanting only to know how soon they could come to see the job. Within the hour they were on site, breaking and removing the damaged concrete as the new was poured in. By EOD the job was stunningly, beautifully, and immaculately finished. Now this is Top Drawer!"

"From start to finish, a professional sidewalk job. They were eager to start the job and to complete it, and fully willing to work with the township inspection schedule. Price was exactly what I was expecting and the finish quality of the concrete sidewalks was excellent."

"We gave a deposit at the end of June with a promise of starting at the end of August. In Sept we called to check on the start date. Because of a wet summer, all work was delayed. Our project finally started Oct 23rd and finished Nov 17th. Workmen were neat and did a professional job. The work included removing old concrete patio, old landscaping around the patio (including a tree), preparing the ground, and installing a new patio with walls, and new landscaping around the patio and adjacent to the house. Once the project got going, work was done weekdays except for rainy weather. We are very happy with the result."

"The gentleman from J&R concrete were very professional and respectful. They went over all aspects of the work they would be doing and answered all my questions. My original project was for backyard steps only. I asked if they would give me a separate estimate to also do the backyard. Their estimate was very professionally done and complete and affordable. I asked for pictures of work they had previously done. After seeing their work I was sold. Once the work was started it took 3 days to complete. They arrived each day promptly at 8:30 AM. After the work was done they hauled away all debris and left the work area spotless. Their method of making payment for the work was very easy and convenient. I would highly recommend J&R contractors to anyone looking for a top notch contractor."

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.
Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.
Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.
An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
