"We have been planning our deck and porch renovations for more than five years and Smoky Deck Builders built us a beautiful two-story deck with a spiral staircase and a screened in porch. Jason helped us get the plans sets and Flip, Beckett and James built the huge structure. We were impressed with their knowledge, skills, and work ethic. James and Chance did an excellent job with finish aesthetics. As with all construction projects, some issues come up but Christian always had solutions to make us happy. Isabella handled the financial things well and took care of general communications. Thank you Smoky Mountain Deck Builders for building us a beautiful deck and porch. You definitely deserve a five-star rating."

"Chic Masonry was A+ from our first phone call. They were always on time, professional, and built us an amazing retaining wall! They even clean up leaving things better than they found them! We plan to use them again this fall or winter- keep up the great work!"

"I had two lots that needed to be cleared of concrete blocks and debris from the wildfires. Chris was very prompt in responding to my initial request. When we met at the sites he was very insightful and thorough as to how he would achieve what needed to be done. He is very conscientious on doing a good job and is a master on the excavator. The entire job was above my expectations including cleanup and not to mention a fair price. I would highly recommend."

"David and his crew were extremely efficient, effective, and productive. We were faced with the complete demolition of a 35-40’ long 10’ high railroad tie retaining wall which had deteriorated. DMC removed the entire wall and the shale and soil which had sunk and caused the concrete parking pad to crack and sink within a few days. He constructed a new wall of Normandy blocks backed with stones and gravel, a new drainage system, and finished with permeable pavers which effectively addresses the large amount of rain water we get in the east Tennessee mountains. David always followed up with action on whatever he said he’d do. We would highly recommend DMC Outdoor Living for any large or small hardscaping project."

"Very happy with the work done by Larry and his crew. Trimmed bushes and trees, moved a huge pile of dirt and leveled out backyard. Planted trees and did some front yard work. Will use him again."

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.
Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.
Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.
An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
