"We had two walls put in (one large and one small), drainage issues fixed, and expanded the concrete area by a few feet and we are incredibly happy with the work that was done! No maintenance for this mom of 3 and an awesome space to use with the kids. My 3 year old son loved the equipment and the guys that worked on our project were THE BEST! Highly recommend their work and very happy with the outcome of the patio that we can use for many, many years!"

"They were very meticulous in pouring and finishing the concrete sidewalk. They sealed the concrete to protect from heavy road salt. They replaced dirt and restored my lawn to the previous condition. This crew shows up a scheduled time for the job, gets their own permits, and schedules inspections. We love our new sidewalk. It’s perfect!"

"We hired Plymouth Meeting Nursery to completely transform the exterior landscape of our 100+ year-old home, where we live with our three young children and our ever-faithful golden retriever. As a licensed landscape architect, we approached this project with high standards and were looking for a contractor who offered fair, transparent pricing, excellent craftsmanship, and timely execution. Plymouth Meeting Nursery delivered on all counts. The scope of work was extensive and included the demolition of all existing landscaping, a deck, concrete walkways, fencing, and excess soil. In its place, the team installed new fencing, a beautiful cedar pergola, repointed brickwork on our home, irrigation, a synthetic lawn alongside fresh sod and thoughtfully selected plantings, outdoor lighting, a stunning bluestone patio with brick steps and retaining wall, a brick and bluestone fireplace, and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen featuring a grill, sink, ice maker, and refrigerator. The project spanned nearly five months, during which a few scope changes arose. Each one was handled professionally and flexibly by John and his team. Their commitment was clear: the crew showed up consistently and kept the momentum going, which we greatly appreciated. We couldn’t be more proud of the results and highly recommend Plymouth Meeting Nursery for your next outdoor project. They’ve helped us create a space that’s not only functional and beautiful—but truly feels like a new extension of home."

"From the estimate process until final product finished today, we could not be happier with BQ Initially was quoted a 2 day process to complete our Aquastop waterproofing system and sump pump replacement, Steve, Curtis, Pedro, and Josh arrived as promised at 7:30 and completed the job by 1:30. They explained the entire process and updated us throughout. They were very professional, efficient, and polite. Everything was explained about the new system and cleanup has the basement back to pre construction condition. We highly recommend BQ Basements and Concrete!"

"I couldn't be more satisified with the turnout of my recently resurfaced asphalt driveway. Zack and Jarren, of Pennsy Paving & Concrete, were the first to get back to me shortly after submitting quote requests on Home Advisor. Other companies wanted me to do all the leg work for them, meanwhile Zack called and offered to stop by my house to see what needed to be done. He promptly emailed me a fair quote and they soon gained another happy customer. They're a punctual, clean, professional and respectful team. I'm a brutal OCD perfectionist so trust me when I tell you their work is solid and symmetrical."

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.
Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.
Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.
An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
