"Ben and his wife Esma are amazing people, honest, punctual and hard working. The project was top notch. Not only did Ben and his team consistently show up on time, but they finished the entire project in a weekâ s time. The final project turned out amazingly beautiful. I will probably spend my Cancun vacation in my backyard now!!!!"

Customers say: Quality work

"We hired Renald to redo an brick paver patio and replace it with a new concrete patio and walkway. The quote we received was very affordable and the quality of work that followed was excellent. Renald was always available to answer any questions we had, and always kept on top of any unexpected delays and rescheduling due to weather. He was also very accommodating with any modifications we discussed, and gave us advice on diy projects we want to work on. We are definitely considering bringing him and his team back for additional projects in the future."

Customers say: Quick response

"Jimmy is a hard working dedicated businessman . His estimate was wrong. Much lower than anticipated because the concrete was much thicker than we realized, and took more time to demolish. Jimmy stood by his estimate! Needless to say I will have much more work for jimmy. He is old school, his word is his bond, I would do business with a handshake with Jimmy. Last but not least, thanks again Jimmy!"

"Nik removed cement sidewalk and replaced with pavers. He did the MOST amazing job.. Nik did exactly what I asked, which was to raise the new paver sidewalk from sloping down to the porch steps to being straight to steps. It came out beautiful and I love it!. He was on time and finished the job as scheduled. I HIGHLY recommend BB Masonry, you won't be disappointed. And the price was very reasonable."

FAQs for concrete work projects in South Britain, CT

Figuring out how many bars you need isn’t a one-size-fits-all equation. A structural engineer or experienced concrete contractor will look at your slab’s thickness, the loads it must carry, and local code requirements, then run the numbers for you. That quick consultation protects your budget and keeps the finished slab safe, level, and up to code.

Match the metal to the job. For light, thin pours like a sidewalk, welded wire mesh often does the trick. Thicker slabs—driveways, garage floors, foundations—usually call for traditional steel bars. If your site sees salt, humidity, or coastal spray, spend the extra cash on galvanized or stainless steel to fend off rust and avoid future repairs. When in doubt, a concrete pro can confirm the best fit for your project and budget.

Stainless steel costs more up front, but the alloy can last 75 years or longer with little to no rust. That longevity means fewer repairs, less maintenance, and peace of mind for structures exposed to salt, moisture, or de-icing chemicals. If you’re pouring near the coast or in a humid climate, the extra dollars now can save you multiple replacements down the road.

An engineer will review the slab’s thickness, span, soil conditions, and expected loads, then specify bar size, spacing, and grade. Skipping that step or guessing can leave you with cracked concrete or a blown budget. For a modest consultation fee, a local engineer or contractor can do the math and hand you a rebar schedule that meets code and keeps your project on solid footing.
